CASTLEPOINT ROAD BOARD, COUNTY OF WAIRARAPA NORTH.
Notice is hereby given that the following special order was made by the Board on Saturday, the 29th October, 1898, and confirmed on Saturday, the 7th January, 1899:—
"That for the purpose of securing the repayment of a loan of £300 under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for extending the formation of the Mungapurupuru Road from Section 874 to Section 878, Blocks X. and XI., Mungapakeha Survey District, a special rate of 3d. in the pound be made on the following lands, viz.: Sections Parts 1 and 2 of 876, 877, 878, 879, part 881, and part of Part 1 of Section 865, Blocks X., XI., and XIV., Mungapakeha Survey District. Such rate shall be annually recurring for twenty-six years, and payable in two equal half-yearly instalments on 1st February and 1st August in each year."
I hereby certify that the above special order has been duly made by the Castlepoint Road Board in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

THE following special order, made by the Moa Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

MOA ROAD BOARD.—SPECIAL ORDER.
That a special rate of 3d. in the pound be made and levied for a period of one year, ending 30th November, 1899, over the following lands, which are hereby constituted the Kai-mata Road North Special Rating District:—
Sections 9, 18, 19, 20, part 28, Block I., Huiroa; Sections 3, 4, 5, 6, part 7, Block II., Huiroa; Section 1, Block XIV., Waitara.
Such rate to be payable in one sum, at the Board’s office, Inglewood, on 1st February, 1899.

Notice of the Laying-off of a Road through the Mohakatino-Parinininihi No. 1b Block, Taranaki Land District.

NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 92 of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was, in February, 1897, duly taken and laid off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by a warrant dated the 21st October, 1896.

BRISBANE RIVER.—TIDAL SIGNALS, PILE LIGHTHOUSE.
Notice is hereby given that, on and after the 15th January, 1899, the tidal signals made from the Pile Lighthouse, entrance to the Brisbane River, will indicate the tidal rise only, and not the depth in channel as heretofore: to obtain the latter the height signalled is to be added to the depth of channel, which will be duly notified. The symbols used remain the same; the interpretation thereof is as follows, viz.:—

SHOAL PATCHES, INNER ROUTE TO TORRES STRAIT.
Notice is hereby given that Lieutenant-Commander Parry, H.M.S. “Dart,” reports as follows:—

  1. A 33-ft. coral-patch about 3 cables long and 2 cables wide, running in a N. by E. and a S. by W. direction, with 9 fathoms of soft mud round it, lies in the following position, viz.:—
    North extreme of Hannah Island N. 81° 10′ W., distant 1⁹⁄₁₀ miles.
    West extreme west sand-patch on Emma Reef N. 6° 45′ W., distant 3⁸⁄₁₀ miles.
    North end of Burkitt Island S. 11° E., distant 3⁹⁄₁₀ miles.
    Latitude, 13° 51′ 8″ S.; longitude, 143° 44′ 2″ E.
  2. A 31-ft. coral-head, with 8 to 9 fathoms soft mud close round it, lies in the following position, viz.:—
    West extreme of west sand-patch on Emma Reef N. 11° 20′ W., distant 5⁴⁄₁₀ miles.
    South extreme of Hannah Island N. 64° 20′ W., distant 2⁸⁄₁₀ miles.
    North end of Burkitt Island S. 1° 45′ E., distant 2³⁄₁₀ miles.
    Latitude, 13° 53′ 2″ S.; longitude, 143° 44′ 6″ E.
    The whole indications of this shoal are included within a radius of 50 ft. from the shoalest part.
  3. A 33-ft. coral-patch about 1½ cables in length, running in a N.N.W. and S.S.E. direction, with 8 to 9 fathoms soft mud close round it, lies in the following position, viz.:—
    West extreme of west sand-patch on Emma Reef N. 18° 15′ W., distant 6¹⁄₁₀ miles.
    South extreme of Hannah Island N. 63° 15′ W., distant 3⁷⁄₁₀ miles.
    North extreme of Burkitt Island S. 22° 50′ W., distant 1⁹⁄₁₀ miles.
    Latitude, 13° 53′ 7″ S.; longitude, 143° 45′ 6″ E.
  4. A 7-fathoms mud-bank about 7 cables long N. and S. and 1½ cables wide, with 8 to 10 fathoms soft mud all round it, lies in the following position, viz.:—
    Aye Reef beacon N. 58° 5′ E., distant 1⁵⁄₁₀ miles.
    North extreme of Burkitt Island N. 55° 20′ W., distant 4⁶⁄₁₀ miles.
    Centre Pelican Island N. 8° 40′ E., distant 4⁴⁄₁₀ miles.
    Latitude, 13° 58′ 8″ S.; longitude, 143° 48′ 4″ E.
    The beacon on Aye Reef is 1 cable from the south extreme of Aye Reef, instead of as shown on the published chart.
  5. The least water found on the 4½-fathoms patch reported S.W. of the Claremont Island lightship was a small coral-head of 24 ft., and it was found to lie in the following amended position, viz.:—
    Cairn on north-west point of Morris Island N. 66° E., distant ⁹⁄₁₀ mile.
    Claremont lightship N. 34° 45′ E., distant ⁶⁄₁₀ mile.
    Heath Reef beacon N. 56° 15′ W., distant 2¹⁄₁₀ miles.
    Latitude, 13° 29′ 6″ S.; longitude, 143° 41′ 5″ E.
