The neighbourhood of this rock was thoroughly sounded round in a boat, and a great deal of foul ground was found in the immediate vicinity, having depths varying from 6 to 8 fathoms; masters of vessels are therefore cautioned to pass close to the westward of the lightship.
- A 24-ft. coral-patch, 3 cables long N.N.E. and S.S.W., and about ½ cable wide, lies in the following position, viz.:—
Cairn on north-west point of Morris Island N. 45° 15′ E., distant 4⅕ miles.
Centre Pea Reef S. 31° 45′ W., distant ⅚ mile.
Heath Reef beacon N. 9° 40′ E., distant 4 miles.
Latitude, 13° 32′ 2″ S.; longitude, 143° 38′ 8″ E.

WITH reference to Notice to Mariners, No. 43 of 1898, which appeared in New Zealand Gazette, No. 1, of the 5th instant, it is hereby notified that the Marine Board at Port Adelaide states that unsuitable weather has prevented the work of erecting the beacon on Marion Reef and the red light at the foot of Troubridge Lighthouse being carried out, and that a further notice will be issued when the beacon and light are erected.

PORT OF PORT PHILLIP.—GELLIBRAND LIGHTSHIP.
MARINERS and others are hereby informed that the Gellibrand lightship has parted its moorings, and that a gas buoy has been placed in lieu thereof, temporarily, from which is exhibited a fixed red light, 10 ft. 6 in. above sea-level, visible in ordinary weather four miles distant.

Notice as to Day for Closing under “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894.”
NOTICE is hereby given that, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by “The Shops and Shop-Assistants Act, 1894,” and of all other powers and authorities me hereto enabling, and in terms of notice in writing duly received by me from the Chairman of the Conference of delegates of all the local authorities comprised in the district constituted for the purposes of that Act by the Boroughs of the City of Dunedin, Port Chalmers, West Harbour, North-east Valley, Maori Hill, Roslyn, Mornington, Caversham, South Dunedin, and St. Kilda (being all the boroughs or town districts any part of any one of which is situate within a mile of any part of another), I, William Hall-Jones, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of Labour, hereby appoint Wednesday to be the day on which all shops in the said district shall be closed as provided by that Act.
