Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with the consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, do hereby proclaim and declare that the Borough of Newton aforesaid shall, on and after the sixteenth day of August, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine, be called and known by the name of “Grey Lynn,” and the name of the said Borough of Newton is hereby altered accordingly.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of February, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

Changing the Purpose of Reserves in Wellington.
RANFURLY, Governor.
WHEREAS the lands described in the Schedule hereto were heretofore duly set apart as ferry reserves, being reserves in Class I. of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” and such lands have not been vested in trust in any society, body corporate, or trustees: And whereas it is expedient that such reserves shall be appropriated for the purposes of a public recreation-ground, being a reserve in Class III. of the aforesaid Act:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers and authorities vested in me by the second section of “The Public Reserves Act Amendment Act, 1889,” do by this notification declare that the said reserves shall, from and after the thirtieth day of March instant, be appropriated for the purposes of a public recreation-ground, under Class III. of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881”; and I do hereby direct that this notification shall be published in the New Zealand Gazette.
SCHEDULE.
All that parcel of land in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 30 acres, more or less, being Section No. 52, Block X., Hautapu Survey District. Bounded towards the north by the Mangawharariki Bridge Road, and generally towards the east, south, and south-west by the Rangitikei River; towards the west by cliff: as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Wellington.
All that parcel of land in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 36 acres, more or less, being Section No. 50, Block X., Hautapu Survey District. Bounded towards the north by road reserved along the Rangitikei River; towards the east and south by the Rangitikei River and native land; towards the west by Sections 32, 31, 30, 27, 25: as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Wellington.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twentieth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

Land temporarily reserved in the Land District of Wellington.

WHEREAS by the two-hundred-and-thirty-fifth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” it is enacted that the Governor may from time to time, either by general or particular description, and whether the same has been surveyed or not, reserve from sale temporarily, notwithstanding that the same may be then held under pastoral license, any Crown lands which in his opinion are required for any of the purposes in the said section mentioned:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by the said Act, do hereby temporarily reserve from sale the land in the Land District of Wellington, described in the Schedule hereunder written, for the purposes of a public-school site.
SCHEDULE.
All that parcel of land in the Wellington Land District, containing by admeasurement 14 acres, more or less, being Section No. 40, Block III., Hautapu Survey District. Bounded towards the north by the Puke Road; towards the east by Puke Road; towards the south by Section No. 42; and towards the west by Puhirua Road: as the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the office of the Chief Surveyor, Wellington.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twentieth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

Volunteer Regulations amended.
RANFURLY, Governor.
WHEREAS by “The Defence Act, 1886,” it is among other things enacted that the Governor may from time to time make, alter, or revoke regulations respecting the enrolment, promotion, discipline, training, exercise, arms, accoutrements, clothing, equipment, conveyance, pay, rations, and lodging of the forces, or any portion thereof, and respecting the several other matters in the said Act mentioned: And whereas on the twenty-sixth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, certain regulations were made under the said Act which were published in the New Zealand Gazette of the twenty-eighth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five: And whereas it is expedient now to revoke certain of the said regulations, and in lieu thereof to make others:
Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby revoke regulations respectively numbered eight, nine, ten, seventy-one, seventy-two, seventy-three, seventy-four, seventy-seven, one hundred and two, one hundred and four, one hundred and six, one hundred and eight, one hundred and thirty-six, one hundred and thirty-nine, one hundred and forty-eight, one hundred and sixty-four, one hundred and sixty-seven, one hundred and sixty-eight, and two hundred and twenty-five of the regulations so made and published as aforesaid, and do hereby make the regulations set forth in the Schedule hereto; and I do further declare that the regulations hereby made shall come into force on the twentieth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

ESTABLISHMENT.
- The establishment of officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of the Volunteer Force forming part of the forces enrolled or deemed to be enrolled under the provisions of “The Defence Act, 1886,” will be according to the following table:—
