A P R O C L A M A T I O N.

WHEREAS by the second section of “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act Amendment Act, 1891” (herein termed “the said Act”), it is, amongst other things, enacted that, before certain moneys therein mentioned shall be expended upon any block of land, it shall be necessary that the same be proclaimed as set apart for settlement:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of every power and authority enabling me in this behalf, and for the purposes of the said Act, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim the block of land described in the Schedule hereto as set apart for settlement.

SCHEDULE.

KINOHAKU WEST LOAN BLOCK.

All that area in the Auckland Land District, being a portion of the Kinohaku West Block, situate in the Marakopa, Kawhia South, Maungamangero, and Whareorino Survey Districts, and containing by admeasurement 80,000 acres, more or less. Bounded towards the north generally by the Marakopa River, by the Puketaruwhenua Block, Section I., by the Ratapoike Block, Section II., by the production of the southern boundary of the last-named block to its intersection with the south-western boundary of the Tawarau Block, Section I., and by said block; towards the east generally by the Mangarere Stream, by the Pakeho No. 2 Block, by the Ratapoike Block, Section I., and by the Mairoa No. 4r Block; towards the south generally by the Puketiti No. 5 Block, by the Puketiti No. 1 Block, by the Kinohaku West C No. 2 Block, again by the Puketiti No. 1 Block, and by the Heruera Block; and towards the west generally by the Whareorino Block G, Section I.c, and G, Section I.A, by the Moeatoa Block, Section II., by the Tasman Sea, by the Te Rua-o-te-whenua No. 2 Block, and by the Puketaruwhenua Block, Section II., to the Marakopa River: as the same is delineated upon the plan marked S.G. 42370, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon edged with red.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-third day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine.

Declaring that the Protection of a Part of the Bank of the Opihi River, in the Geraldine County, shall be a Public Work.

A P R O C L A M A T I O N.

WHEREAS by section one hundred and sixty-four of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” it is, inter alia, enacted that, whenever it is found desirable, for the safety or proper maintenance of any public work constructed or authorised under the authority of Her Majesty or the Governor, or the Government of the colony, or by or under the provisions of any Act of the General Assembly, to protect, alter, or divert, either wholly or partially, any river, stream, or watercourse, the Governor, by Proclamation, may declare that the course of such river, stream, or watercourse shall be protected, altered, or diverted, and thereupon the said protection, alteration, or diversion shall be a public work within the meaning of the said Act:

And whereas a certain public work, to wit, the protection of a part of the bank of the Opihi River, between the limits defined in the Schedule below, is endangered by the said river encroaching thereon, and it is desirable to further protect the bank of such river by erecting, constructing, and maintaining such embankments and such other protective works as may be necessary for the safety and proper maintenance and strengthening of the said river-bank, and to prevent further encroachment of the Opihi River on to the public and private lands immediately adjoining:

Now, therefore, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of the powers granted by the hereinbefore-in-part-recited Act, and of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the work for protective purposes on the portion of the southern bank of the Opihi River, heretofore executed and hereafter to be done, shall be a public work, and such work shall for all purposes be taken and deemed to have been executed under the authority of the said Act.

As the same is delineated upon the plan marked as above mentioned, deposited in the Head Office of the Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured as above stated.
