Te Hana and Oruawharo Rivers; towards the west generally by the Topuni and Hakaru Rivers and the Kaiwaka Parish to the Parish of Waipu aforesaid.

HERIOT DISTRICT.

All that area in the Otago Land District bounded towards the north generally by the SpyIaw Burn from its confluence with the Pomahaka River to Block VI., Crookston Survey District; thence by the said Block VI., and by Benger Survey District, to SpyIaw Hill: thence towards the east generally by the road forming the north-eastern boundary of Section No. 8, Block XVII., Crookston Survey District; by Section No. 7, a public road, and Sections Nos. 13, 16, and 18, Block XVII. aforesaid; by Sections Nos. 15, 12, 13, and 10, Block XVI., Crookston Survey District, and the road forming the southern boundary of the last-mentioned section to the summit of the Tapanui Mountains, and thence by the summit of the Tapanui Mountains to Tapanui Hill: thence towards the south generally by a right line to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 3, Block XI., Crookston Survey District; thence by Blocks X. and III. to the northern boundary of Section No. 30, Block III. aforesaid; thence by Sections Nos. 30, 32, and 37, Block III., Crookston Survey District; Sections Nos. 20, 9, 11, 12, 29, and 13, Block IV., Greenvale Survey District; Sections Nos. 2, 7, 12, 14, and 15, Block V., and by Block XIII., Greenvale Survey District, to the Pomahaka River: and thence towards the west by the Pomahaka River to the SpyIaw Burn aforesaid.

TAPANUI DISTRICT.

All that area in the Otago Land District bounded towards the north generally by the Leithen Burn from the north-west boundary of Section No. 1, Block VII., Greenvale Survey District, to the Pomahaka River; thence by that river to the southern boundary of Block XVI.; thence by Blocks XVI., XVII., and V., to the southern boundary-line of Section No. 21, said Block V.; thence by Sections Nos. 21, 22, 23, 24, 1, and 25, Block V., and Sections Nos. 24, 25, 26, and railway reserve, and by Sections Nos. 27 and 28, Block IV., Greenvale Survey District; by Sections Nos. 38, 39, and 40, Block III., Crookston Survey District; by Blocks VII. and XI. to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 3, Block XI., Crookston Survey District; thence by a right line to Tapanui Hill: thence towards the south-east generally by the summit of the Tapanui Mountains and the leading spur intersecting Section No. 4, Block XII., Glenkenich Survey District, to the Pomahaka River at the northern boundary of the Waipahee Survey District: thence towards the south generally by the Waipahee Survey District, and the road forming the northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 40, 39, and 38, Block IX., Glenkenich Survey District: and towards the west generally by the road forming the north-western boundaries of Sections Nos. 6, 7, 12, 13, road reserve, 14 and 16, said Block IX.; by the road intersecting Sections Nos. 9 and 10, Block V., and forming the eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 28 and 12, Block V., Glenkenich Survey District; by the last-mentioned section, by Chatton Survey District, the Waikaka River (east branch), and the north-western boundary of Section No. 1, Block VII., Greenvale Survey District, to the Leithen Burn, the place of commencement.

GABRIEL’S DISTRICT.

All that area in the Otago Land District bounded towards the north generally by the Benger Survey District from SpyIaw Hill to the Clutha River; thence by a line across that river, and by the eastern bank of the Clutha River to the Beaumont River; thence by that river to its source: thence towards the north-east generally by the summit of the Lammerlaw Range and the watershed between the Waipori River and the Deep and Lee Streams, the road forming the northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 3, 4, and 5, Block II., Waipori Survey District, and of Sections Nos. 4 and 8, Block V.: towards the east generally by Block VI., the Verter Burn, and the Waipori River, and the south-eastern boundary of Section 5, Block VIII., Waipori Survey District, to Trig. Station C, Block VIII. aforesaid, and thence by a right line to Waitahuna Hill: thence towards the south generally by the summit of the leading ridge to the watershed between the Tuapeka and Waitahuna Rivers, by that watershed and by the summit of the leading ridge to the source of the Crook Burn; thence by the Crook Burn to the north-eastern boundary of Section No. 23, Block X., Waitahuna West Survey District; thence by that section, the road forming the northern boundary of Section No. 22, and by Section No. 6, Block XI., Waitahuna West Survey District, to its northernmost corner; thence by a right line to the easternmost corner of Section No. 15, Block IX., Tuapeka West Survey District; thence by the road forming the eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 15, 16, and 17, said Block IX., the road intersecting Sections Nos. 17 and 11 and forming part of the northern boundary of the last-mentioned section, the road forming the northern boundary of Section No. 4, said Block IX., and forming the northern boundary of the Village of Darton, and of Sections Nos. 4, 5, and 6, Block XIII., and by Block VIII., Tuapeka West Survey District, to the Clutha River; thence by that river to a point opposite the mouth of the Blackcleugh Burn, across the Clutha River: and towards the west generally by the Blackcleugh Burn to its source in the Tapanui Mountains, by the summit of the Tapanui Mountains, the road forming the southern boundary of Section No. 10, Block XVI., Crookston Survey District; by Section No. 11, said Block XVI.; by Block XIII.; Section No. 14, Block XVII., Crookston Survey District; a road-line, and Sections Nos. 6 and 8, said Block XVII., to SpyIaw Hill, the place of commencement.

MOUNT BENGER DISTRICT.

All that area in the Otago Land District bounded towards the north by a right line from a point on the summit of the Umbrella Mountains, due west of the confluence of Jordan Creek with the Clutha River, to that confluence; thence by a right line to South Roughridge Hill: thence towards the east generally by the watershed between the Clutha and Taieri Rivers and by the Lammerlaw Range to the source of the Beaumont River: thence towards the south generally by the Beaumont and Clutha Rivers to a point in line with the northern boundary of Crookston Survey District; thence to and by that survey district, by the south-eastern boundary of Block VI., Crookston Survey District, and the SpyIaw Burn, to the Pomahaka River: thence towards the west generally by a right line to Wart Hill; thence by a right line to the Whitcombe, and by the summit of the Umbrella Mountains, to the place of commencement.

And I hereby declare that this Proclamation shall come into operation on the first day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this fourteenth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority vested in the Governor by “The Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1875,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby abolish the existing registration districts known as the Paparoa, Mangawai, Tapanui, Gabriel’s, and Mount Benger Districts; and do proclaim and declare that the territory heretofore comprised within the said districts is hereby divided anew into seven registration districts, the names whereof shall be the Maungaturoto, Paparoa, Mangawai, Heriot, Tapanui, Gabriel’s, and Mount Benger Districts, and the boundaries whereof shall be coterminous with the boundaries of the marriage districts bearing the same names, as are set forth in a Proclamation of even date herewith, made under the provisions of “The Marriage Act, 1880.”

And I hereby declare that this Proclamation shall come into operation on the first day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.
