Section 8, Block XIV., Manganui: This section is accessible from Raetihi, which is about six miles distant, by five miles and a half of formed dray-road and half a mile of road which is surveyed only. The section comprises broken hilly land, with a few acres of flat near the road. The soil rests on a papa formation, and is of good quality. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, miro, matai, tawa, &c., with an undergrowth of the usual kind. The land is watered by small streams.
Section 27, Block XIV., Manganui, is situated on the Orautoha Road, the access being from Raetihi, which is about eight miles and a half distant, by about seven miles and three-quarters of formed dray-road and three-quarters of a mile of pack-track. The area comprises hilly land, with a few small flats on the Orautoha Stream. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, matai, tawa, &c., and the usual undergrowth. The section is watered by the Orautoha and other small streams.

Section 82, Block IX., Makuri, is situated in the Tiraumea-Makuri Block, on the Aohanga Central Road. The access is from Ngaturi, which is about four miles distant, by one mile and a half of formed dray-road partly metalled, and two miles and a half of formed horse-track. This area comprises hilly country, with a rough road-frontage, and a small flat at the back, on the Makuri Saddle. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is of a mixed character, comprising rata, rimu, tawa, matai, totara, &c., with the usual undergrowth of supplejack, &c. The section is well watered. The section is weighted with £60 for improvements, comprising 40 acres felled and grassed, but overgrown with scrub.
Section 20, Block VI., Puketoi, is situated on the Saunders Road, the access being from Eketahuna, which is about twenty-three miles distant by a road formed for dray traffic as far as the south-east corner of the section. The section comprises high broad ridges and numerous gullies. The soil is of good quality, resting on calcareous sandstone and papa formations. The forest is of a mixed character, and comprises tawhero, rimu, rata, &c., with usual undergrowth of supplejack, &c. The land is watered by small streams. The Crown reserves the right to take a road through this section. The Wairarapa North County Council has a claim of £3 7s. for rates due on this section.
Section 4, Block V., Mangahao, is situated on the eastern slopes of the Tararua Range, and has access from Pahiatua, which is about eleven miles distant via the Mangahao, Makomako, and Marima Roads, which are metalled for about ten miles, the remainder of the distance being a surveyed road not yet cleared. The area comprises hilly and broken forest country, with no flat land. The soil is poor and stony, and rests on rotten-rock formation. The forest is light on the ridges and heavy in the gullies. It is composed chiefly of rata, rimu, birch, &c., with a dense undergrowth of whitewood, rangiora, vines, &c. The section is at present well watered by a stream.
Section 24, Block IX., Mangahao, is situated on the Naenae Road, and also has a small frontage to the Tainui Valley Road. The access is from the main coach-road, which is about seven miles distant via the Tutaekara and Naenae Roads, five miles of which is metalled, one mile formed for dray traffic, and the remainder is rough pack-track. Tutaekara Railway-station is about five miles distant. The section, generally speaking, comprises hilly and undulating country. Part of it is in grass and the remainder covered with bush. There is a small area of flat land near the Naenae Road. The soil is of medium quality, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation. The forest ranges from medium to heavy, comprising chiefly rimu, rata, tawa, birch, &c., with a dense undergrowth of supplejack, rangiora, vines, &c. The section is at present watered by small streams. The section is weighted with £175 5s. for improvements, comprising a whare, about 64 acres grassed, and about 15 acres felled and partly burned and grassed.
Section 4, Block V., Hautapu, is situated on the Creek Road, the access being from Mangaweka, which is about four miles distant, by three miles of formed dray-road and one mile of pack-track. The area comprises rough hilly land, with from 10 to 15 acres of flat country. The soil is good, and rests on papa formation. The forest is of a mixed character, comprising rimu, matai, rata, tawa, &c., and the usual undergrowth. The section is well watered by constantly running streams. The section is weighted with £142 18s. for improvements, comprising grassing, felling, a yard, fencing, and tracks.
Section 8, Block V., Hautapu, is situated on the Makohine Valley Road, the access being from Mangaweka, which is about seven miles distant, by six miles of horse-road and one mile of road which is surveyed only. The area comprises hilly land, with about 30 acres of easy sloping country. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is mixed, and comprises kahikatea, rata, matai, miro, rimu, hinau, maire, with tawa on the lower parts, and a few rewarewa, totara, and manuka on the ridges. The undergrowth is composed of horopito, hohu, karamu, kareao, konini, rangiora, &c. The section is watered by the Makohine Stream. The Rangitikei County Council has a claim against this section of £3 6s. 7d. for rates due. The section is weighted with £26 for improvements, comprising 12½ acres bush-felling and grassing, whare, and pataka.
Sections 363, 367, and 368, Blocks V. and X., Wairoa, are situated on the ocean-beach, about one mile and a half from Whenuakura Railway-station. There is also access from Waverley, which is about five miles and a half distant, by a good dray-road to within half a mile of the section, and a dray could be taken from thence to the section. The area comprises flat and undulating land, with soil of a very poor quality, it being composed of drift sand. There is no vegetation on the land but that which has been planted. The sections have no water. These sections are weighted with £36 12s. 6d. for improvements, comprising 60 acres of sand-grass and 50 chains of fencing.
Section 6, Block IX., Makotuku, is situated on the coach-road from Pipiriki to Karioi, the access being from Pipiriki, which is about eleven miles and a half distant, and from Raetihi Township, which is about five miles and a half distant, by the main coach-road. The area comprises rough broken country. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is mixed, and comprises rimu, miro, rata, tawa, tawhero, &c., with the usual undergrowth. The section is weighted with £7 10s. for improvements, comprising two small patches of bush felled and burned, but not sown with grass.
