Section 35, Block VII., Umutoi, is situated on the Umutoi Road, the access being from Apiti, which is about eight miles and a half distant, via the Main, Table Flat, and Umutoi Roads, seven miles of which distance is a formed dray-road, and the rest of the distance a formed bridle-track. The section, generally speaking, comprises hilly forest country, with small areas of flat land. The eastern is considerably lower than the western portion. The soil is of fair quality, and rests on a papa formation. The forest is rather heavy throughout, comprising rimu, matai, rata, and birch on the higher ground, the undergrowth being thick and of the usual kind. The section is watered by small streams. The elevation ranges from 1,500 ft. to 1,800 ft. above sea-level. This section is weighted with £5 for improvements, comprising about 4 acres felled and burned but not sown.

Section 4, Block I., Umutoi, is situated on the Te Parapara Road, and has access from Rangiwahia, which is about five miles distant via the Kimbolton and Te Parapara Roads, two miles and a half of which distance is a formed dray-road and the rest a formed bridle-track. The section is composed generally of broken forest country. There is an area of about 40 acres of flat land in the middle of it. The soil is of medium quality, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation. The forest is heavy throughout. It comprises rimu, matai, birch, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The land is well watered by small streams.

Section 9, Block VII., Tiriraukawa, is situated on the Wairepu Road, and has access from Hunterville, which is about twenty-four miles distant by the Watershed Road, Murray’s Track, and the Wairepu Road, which are formed for dray traffic for about nineteen miles, the rest of the distance being a formed bridle-track, which is bad in winter. The section, generally speaking, comprises hilly and rough forest country. The soil is fair, and rests on papa formation. The forest comprises mainly rimu, miro, matai, rata, tawa, &c., and is rather heavy throughout, the undergrowth being of the usual kind. The land is fairly well watered by small streams. The elevation ranges from about 2,000 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level. The Rangitikei County Council has a claim of £1 1s. 7d. against this section for rates due.

Section 3, Block I., Tiriraukawa, is situated at the junction of the Karetu and Turakina Valley Roads. The access is from Hunterville, which is about twenty-one miles distant via the Ongo and Turakina Valley Roads, which are formed for dray traffic for about seventeen miles, the rest of the distance being by a formed bridle-track. The section comprises chiefly hilly forest country, with some flat land near the Karetu Road. The soil is of fair quality, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation. The forest is heavy, comprising rimu, miro, kahikatea, matai, rata, tawa, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The section is well watered by small streams. The Rangitikei County Council has a claim of £2 4s. 9d. for rates due on this section.

Section 8, Block II., Tiriraukawa, is situated on the Mangamahoe and Karetu Roads, the access being from Hunterville, which is about twenty-seven miles distant via the Ongo, Turakina Valley, and Mangamahoe Roads, which are formed for dray traffic for about seventeen miles, the rest of the distance being a formed bridle-track. The section is composed chiefly of hilly forest country, with a few small flats here and there. The soil is of fair quality, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation. The forest, which is rather heavy, is composed of rimu, miro, matai, rata, tawa, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual description. The section is well watered by small streams. The Rangitikei County Council has a claim of £2 4s. 9d. for rates due on this section.

Section 20, Block II., Tiriraukawa, is situated on the Mangamahoe Road, the access being from Hunterville, which is about twenty-seven miles distant via the Ongo, Turakina Valley, and Mangamahoe Roads, which are formed for dray traffic for about seventeen miles of the distance, and from there to the section is by a formed bridle-track. The section comprises hilly and undulating forest country, with a few flats here and there. The soil is of fair quality, resting on papa-and-sandstone formation. The forest is not very heavy, comprising rimu, matai, rata, tawa, &c, and a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The section is well watered by small streams. The elevation ranges from about 1,600 ft. to 2,200 ft. above sea-level. The Rangitikei County Council has a claim of £1 11s. for rates due on this section.

Section 6, Block XIII., Manganui, is situated on the Orautoha–Ohura Road, and has access from Raetihi, which is about ten miles distant, of which eight miles is a formed dray-road, the remainder of the distance being by pack-track and a road which has been surveyed only. The area comprises hilly land, with about 50 acres of flat and undulating country. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is of a mixed character, and comprises rimu, matai, maire, hinau, kahikatea, tawa, &c., with an undergrowth of karamo, koromiko, tutu, fern, flax, toitoi, &c. About half the section is covered with fern and scrub. The land is watered by a good stream.

Section 7, Block XIII., Manganui, is situated on the Orautoha–Ohura Road. The access is from Raetihi, which is about nine miles and a half distant, by eight miles of formed dray-road and one mile and a half of rough pack-track and road which is surveyed only. The area comprises good hilly country. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa-and-shell formation. The forest is of a mixed character, comprising rimu, matai, maire, hinau, kahikatea, tawa, tawhero, &c., with an undergrowth of karamo, koromiko, tutu, &c. In some of the gullies there are only scrub and light bush. The land is watered by small streams.

Section 8, Block XIII., Manganui, is situated on the Orautoha Road, the access being from Raetihi, which is about nine miles distant, by eight miles of formed dray-road and one mile of pack-track. The section comprises hilly land, with a few acres of flat on the frontage. The soil is good, resting on papa formation. About half the section is covered with koromiko scrub, with a belt of rimu near the stream, the balance of the area being open fern land. The section is well watered by small streams.

Section 5, Block XIV., Manganui: The access to this section is from Raetihi, which is about seven miles and a half distant, by five miles of formed dray-road and two miles and a half of road which has been surveyed only. The area comprises hilly land, with about 50 acres of flat at the back. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation. The forest is of a mixed character, and comprises rimu, miro, matai, tawa, &c., with the usual undergrowth. The section is well watered by small streams.
