THE following special order, made by the Cook County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Counties Act, 1886.”

COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.

A SPECIAL order made by the Cook County Council on Friday, 18th February, 1898, and confirmed at a subsequent meeting on Saturday, 19th March, 1898:—

Resolved, That, consequent upon the formation of the Waipaoa Road District, the boundaries of the Waikohu Road District be amended, and from the coming into force of this special order to be those defined in the accompanying Schedule.

  1. That the Waikohu Riding of Cook County comprise the Ngatapa, Waikohu, and Waipaoa Road Districts, as described this day.

The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of the County of Cook was hereto affixed in the presence of—

Schedule.—Boundaries of the Waikohu Road District.

Commencing at the junction of the Mangatu River with the Waipaoa River; thence westerly and northerly following that river to its source; thence by a straight line to Trig. Station 139, Taumata-a-te-Kohakaha; thence south-westerly by the Whakatane County boundary to the Motu River; thence southerly by that river to the Kaitawea Stream, being the north-eastern corner of Section 12, Block III., Motu Survey District; thence in a southerly direction by the eastern boundaries of that section and Section 1 of Block IV., Crown lands, and Section 2 of Block VIII. (Education Reserve), Section 1 of Block VIII., to the Rangiriri Stream; thence southerly by that stream to its junction with the Waikohu River; thence generally south-easterly by the Waikohu River to its junction with the Waipaoa River; thence generally easterly by that river to the north-western corner of Section 65, Block IX., Waimata Survey District; thence south-easterly by the north-eastern boundaries of that section and Sections 76, 58, 77, 81, of Block IX., 66, 67, of Block VIII., 69, 74, of Block X., to the Waihirere Block; thence easterly by the northern boundary of that block to the westernmost corner of the Kopaatuaki Block; thence north-easterly by the north-western boundaries of that block to the western corner of Waimata West A Block and Waimata West No. 1 Block; thence northerly by the west boundary of Waimata No. 2 Block and the western boundary of Section 6, Block VII., Waimata Survey District, to the southernmost corner of Section 16, Block VII., Waimata Survey District; thence north-westerly by the southern boundary of that section to the Mangataikehu Stream; thence following that stream in a north-westerly direction to the westernmost corner of Section 15a, Block II., Waimata Survey District; thence generally north-easterly by the north-western boundaries of that section, Section 15, and the northern boundary of Run No. 60, to the southernmost corner of Run 44; thence north-westerly and northerly and easterly by the south-western, western, and northern boundaries of that run to the western boundary of Run 58; thence northerly along that boundary to the north-western corner of said Run 58; thence northerly by a straight line to Trig. Station 134, Arakihi; thence north-easterly by a straight line to Trig. Station 168; thence northerly by a straight line to Trig. Station 170, Tangihanga; thence westerly by a straight line produced towards Trig. Station 178, stopping at its intersection with the north-westerly boundary of the Tutamoe Block (C.L.); thence south-westerly and south-easterly by the easterly and north-

eastern boundaries of the Waipaoa No. 2 Block to the Waingaromia River; thence south-westerly by that river to its junction with the Waitangi Stream; thence north-westerly and south-westerly by that stream to its intersection with the northern boundary of the Pakake-a-Whirikoka No. 4 Block; thence westerly and southerly along that boundary to the Mangataikapua Stream; thence south-westerly by that stream to its junction with the Waipaoa River; thence westerly by that river to its junction with the Mangatu River, the point of commencement.

This is the Schedule referred to in the special order of the Cook County Council, confirmed this 19th March, 1898.

WESTERN PACIFIC HIGH COMMISSION.

IN conformity with the direction of the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies, the following instructions are gazetted for the information of those concerned.

Suva, Fiji, 18th June, 1898.

Instructions to the High Commissioner, Western Pacific.

Under and by virtue of the provisions of Articles 4 and 6 of the Pacific Order in Council, 1893,—

I, the Right Honourable Joseph Chamberlain, Her Majesty’s Principal Secretary of State for the Colonies, do hereby direct that jurisdiction under the said Order in Council shall be exercisable in relation to the British settlement known as Pitcairn Island, situated in the Pacific Ocean, in longitude 130° 6′ W., and in latitude 25° 3′ S.

And I hereby further direct that these instructions shall be published in the Government Gazette of Fiji, and in the manner specified in the 146th Article of the said Order in Council, and that all persons within the limits of the said Order in Council as hereby further defined shall govern themselves accordingly.
