HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve, under paragraphs 211 and 213, Volunteer Regulations, 1895, of the formation of the under-mentioned Rifle Volunteers in the Wellington District into a battalion, under the designation of the “3rd Battalion, Wellington (East Coast) Rifle Volunteers,” with headquarters at Napier, and with effect from the 9th day of July, 1898,—
A Company—Napier Guards Rifle Volunteers,
B “ Napier Rifle Volunteers,
C “ Hastings Rifle Volunteers,
D “ Woodville Rifle Volunteers,
E “ Waipawa Rifle Volunteers,
F “ Dannevirke Rifle Volunteers ;
and to appoint

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Wirokino Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

WIROKINO ROAD DISTRICT.
RESULT of poll of ratepayers of the Victoria Terrace Special Rating District, taken on the 4th day of July, 1898, upon the proposal to raise a loan of £100, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of constructing a road along Victoria Terrace to the northern boundary of Section 69, Ohau Township, in the said special district :—
Number of ratepayers on the roll, 13; number of votes, 13: Number of ratepayers in favour, 5; number of votes in favour, 5; number of ratepayers against, 8; number of votes against, 8.
A majority of ratepayers, exercising a majority of votes, having voted against the proposal, I hereby declare the same to be not carried.

WAIMATE ROAD BOARD.
Special Order re Proposed £8,300 Loan for the Central Subdivision.
THAT, to secure repayment of a loan of £8,300, and interest thereon, raised under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments, for the purpose of constructing the following works within the Central Subdivision of the Waimate Road District—viz., forming and metalling the under-mentioned roads at the cost specified opposite each: Auroa Road, £900; Skeet Road, £3,680; Manaiia Road, £950; Rowan Road, £725; Glenn Road, £280; Mangawhero Road, £625; Rama Road, £260; Taikatu Road, £280; Palmer Road, £240; Oeo Road (the unmetalled portions between the southern boundary of the subdivision and the northern boundary of Section 13, Block XIII., Kaupokonui Survey District), £300; and to form and culvert the Neill Road, £60—a special annual-recurring rate of 1½d. in the pound be made and levied for a period of twenty-six years over the Central Subdivision Special Rating Area, comprising Blocks XV., XIV., and Sections 4 to 7 and 13 to 36 (all inclusive), Block XIII., all in the Kaupokonui Survey District. Such rate to be payable, if required, in one instalment, on the 1st day of January in each year of the aforesaid period.
I certify that the above special order was duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

A SPECIAL order made by the Cook County Council on Friday, 18th February, 1898, and confirmed at a subsequent meeting held on Saturday, 19th March, 1898:—
Resolved, That a new road district be formed from parts of the Waikohu Road District, to be called the Waipaoa Road District; the boundaries to be those described in the accompanying Schedule.
- That the number of members be five (5) for the Waipaoa Road District Board.
The common seal of the Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of the County of Cook was hereto affixed in the presence of—

Station No. 139 (Taunui-o-te-Kahakaha); thence north-westerly by the Whakatane County boundary to its intersection with the western boundary of the Huiarua Block, near Arowhana Trig.
