Total number of voters on special roll, 48; number of votes exercisable by them, 60: Number of voters who voted for the proposal, 30; number of votes recorded for the proposal, 37; number of voters who voted against the proposal, 1; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 1.
I therefore declare the above proposal duly carried.

RESULT OF POLL for Proposed Special Loan of £4,000 for Lower Waiau Traffic Bridge.
At a poll of ratepayers of the County of Amuri, taken on Wednesday, 12th day of January, 1898, upon a proposal to raise a loan of £4,000 under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” for the purpose of erecting a new superstructure to the Lower Waiau Traffic-bridge, the following votes were recorded:—
Number of ratepayers on roll, 158, representing 248 votes: Number of votes recorded for the proposal, 87; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 6.
As a majority in number of ratepayers did not vote in favour of the proposal, and the number so voting were not entitled to more than one-half in number of votes which could be exercised by the whole number of ratepayers on the roll, I therefore declare the proposal to be rejected.

WAIMATE ROAD BOARD.
SPECIAL ORDERS re Proposed Opunake Road £350 Loan and Upper Rowan Road £500 Loan.
THAT, to secure repayment of a loan of £350, and interest thereon, raised under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments, for the purpose of forming and metalling the Opunake Road from the Auroa Road eastwards as far as the loan-moneys will permit, a special annual-recurring rate of 2¾d. in the pound be made and levied for a period of twenty-six years over the Opunake Road Special Rating-area, comprising the following sections: viz., 29 to 42, 44, the southern portion of Section 45 (13 acres and 12 perches), the southern portion of Section 46 (25 acres and 2 perches), 47, 48, 49, the northern portion of Section 50 (25 acres), the northern portion of Section 51 (25 acres and 2 perches), 52, 53, 54, and the northern portion of Section 55 (17 acres 1 rood), Block X., Kaupokonui Survey District. Such rate to be payable, if required, in one instalment, on the 1st day of January in each year of the aforesaid period.
That, to secure payment of a loan of £500, and interest thereon, raised under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments, for the purpose of forming and metalling the unmetalled portions of the Upper Rowan Road, from the Eltham Road northwards to the Stratford County boundary, a special annual-recurring rate of 1⁷⁄₁₆d. in the pound be made and levied for a period of twenty-six years over the Upper Rowan Road Special Rating-area, comprising the following sections: 79, 81, 83, the northern portion of 88 (73 acres 2 roods 35 perches), Block X.; 80, 82, 85, and the northern portion of 88 (50 acres), Block XI.; all in the Kaupokonui Survey District. Such rate to be payable, if required, in one instalment, on the 1st day of January in each year of the aforesaid period.
I certify that the above special orders were duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

EKETAHUNA ROAD BOARD.—SPECIAL ORDER No. 4.
THAT, for the purpose of securing payment of the sum of £20, being such amount additional to the sum of £753 already borrowed by the Board under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of construction of portion of Mangatainoka Valley Road, a special rate of ½d. in the pound be made and levied on the rateable value for the time being of the following properties: The western half of Section 12, fronting the Mangatainoka Valley Road, as divided by a line at right angles to the dividing-line between Sections 12 and 15; the southern half of Section 13, as divided by a line at right angles to the Mangatainoka Valley Road; the western half of Section 15, as divided by a line at right angles to the dividing-line between Sections 12 and 15; the eastern half of Section 34, as divided by a line at right angles to the dividing-line between Sections 32 and 34; the southern half of Section 37, as divided by a line parallel with the section-line between Sections 37 and 40; the southern half of Section 40, as divided by a line parallel to the section-line between Sections 37 and 40; the southern half of Section 44, as divided by a line parallel to the section-line between Sections 37 and 40; the southern half of Section 47, as divided by a line parallel to the section-line between Sections 47 and 44; also Sections 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, and 48: all in Block VII., Tararua Survey District.
Such rate shall be an annually-recurring rate, and shall be paid in two half-yearly instalments for twenty-six years, on the 1st day of February and the 1st day of August in each year, until the debt is liquidated.
I hereby certify that the above special order was duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”
