Rural Lands in the Hawke’s Bay Land District open for
Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.
RANFURLY, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by “The Land for Settlements Act,
1894,” and the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The
Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received
the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the
said one hundred and thirty-sixth section is provided, do
hereby declare that the rural land enumerated in the Schedule
hereto shall be open for selection on and after the second
day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-
eight; and that the said lands may be selected on lease in
perpetuity, subject to the provisions of “The Land Act,
1892”; and I do hereby declare that the rentals at which
the said lands shall be leased shall be those mentioned in
the said Schedule hereto opposite the description of such
lands respectively.

IT is hereby notified that, in pursuance and exercise of
the power and authority conferred upon me by sec-
tion 9 of “The Fisheries Conservation Act, 1884,”—
SAMUEL COUSINS, of Dunedin,
ALEXANDER COWIE, of Caversham, and
THOMAS HENDERSON, of Wendon Valley,
have been appointed officers for the purposes of that Act for
all that area in the Provincial District of Otago bounded
on the east and south by the ocean from Shag Point to the
mouth of the Mataura River; on the north-west by Lake
County; on the west and south-west by the Mataura River;
and on the north, north-west, and north-east by the Counties
of Westland and Waitaki.

accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans
Act, 1886.”

UPPER WANGAEHU ROAD BOARD.
Result of poll on proposal to borrow £1,500 for completing
and extending the Wangaehu Valley Road and construc-
tion of bridges to Messrs. Whiteman Bros. and S. S. Adden-
brooke’s properties, Upper Wangaehu Road District :—
Total number of ratepayers on roll, 24, representing 39
votes: Votes recorded for proposal, 22; number of rate-
payers voting for the proposal, 15; votes against, nil;
number of ratepayers voting against the proposal, nil;
informal, nil; votes not recorded, 17: total of votes
against, 17.
As a majority in number of the ratepayers voted in favour
of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to
more than one-half of the votes which can be exercised by
the whole number of ratepayers, I do hereby declare the
proposal to be carried.
