THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Masterton, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”

BOROUGH OF MASTERTON.
In the matter of “The Borough of Masterton Water-supply and Drainage-works Loan Empowering Act, 1896,” and “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.”
The Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.
SIR,—I hereby give you notice, under section 184 of “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” that a poll was taken on Friday, the 25th day of February, 1898, on the following proposal—viz., “Notice is hereby given that the Masterton Borough Council proposes—(1) To construct waterworks and drainage-works for the Borough of Masterton; (2) to borrow the sum of £30,000 for such works; (3) to pledge as security for such loan the said waterworks and the revenue derived therefrom, together with a special rate of 1s. 1d. in the pound on the value of all rateable property within the boundaries of the portion of the Borough of Masterton defined by special order made by the Council on the 30th day of November, 1897. The plan of the said portion of the borough is open for inspection at the Town Clerk’s office during office-hours.—R. BROWN, Town Clerk”—and that the number of votes recorded for and against the above proposal at the poll on the above date is as follows:—
For the proposal, 301; against the proposal, 125; informal, 4.
And, as the number of votes for the proposal exceeds by forty-five three-fifths of the whole votes polled, I declare the resolutions in favour of the proposal to be carried.

In the matter of “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”
I, Charles Aylmer Pownall, Mayor of the Borough of Masterton, do solemnly declare that all proceedings required by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886,” to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses to the proposal—viz., “Proposal to raise a special loan, upon which a poll will be taken upon the 25th day of February, 1898: Borough of Masterton.—In the matter of ‘The Borough of Masterton Water-supply and Drainage-works Loan Empowering Act, 1896,’ and ‘The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886.’ Notice is hereby given that the Masterton Borough Council proposes—(1) To construct waterworks and drainage-works for the Borough of Masterton; (2) to borrow the sum of £30,000 for such works; (3) to pledge as security for such loan the said waterworks and the revenue derived therefrom, together with a special rate of 1s. 1d. in the pound on the value of all rateable property within the

WHEREAS a poll of ratepayers in connection with proposal to raise a loan of £100 for expenditure on the Kaipi Road was taken on the 3rd March, 1898, resulting as follows:—
Number of ratepayers in the special rating district, 2, exercising 3 votes: Number of votes recorded for proposal, 3; number of votes recorded against proposal, nil.
I therefore declare the proposal carried.

MASTERTON ROAD DISTRICT.
RESULT of a poll taken on the 5th day of March, 1898, upon a proposal to raise a loan of £510 for rebuilding the bridge over the Kopuaranga Stream, on the Opaki–Rangitumau Road:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 21, exercising 32 votes: Number who voted in favour of the proposal, 10, exercising 18 votes; number who voted against the proposal, 2, exercising 5 votes; votes unrecorded, 9.
As less than a majority of the total number of ratepayers voted in favour of the proposal, I declare the same to be rejected.

THE following special order, made by the Wirokino Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER made by the Wirokino Road Board at a Special Meeting held on the 19th February, 1898.
THAT a special rate of ½d. in the pound be made and levied on the rateable value of all rateable properties comprised within the boundaries of the Tokomaru Special District, as constituted and confirmed by special order on the 23rd day of February, 1897, to provide for interest and other annual charges for a period of twenty-six years on a loan of £45, being 10 per cent. on £450 loan for the said special district, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments.
I hereby certify that the foregoing special order has been duly made by the Wirokino Road Board, as required by “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”
