Special Orders made by the Eketahuna Road Board, County of Wairarapa North.

THE following special orders, made by the Eketahuna Road Board, are published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER No. 1.

Notice is hereby given that the following special order was made on Saturday, 5th February, 1898, and confirmed on Saturday, 12th March, 1898:—

“ That, for the purpose of securing payment of the sum of £110, being 10 per cent. additional to the sum of £1,100 already borrowed by the Board, under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for the purposes of road-formation, metalling, and bridge over the Mangatainoka River, a special rate of ⅜d. in the pound be made and levied on the rateable value for the time being of the following properties: namely, Sections 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, Block IV.; Sections 42, 45, Block VI.; Sections 31, 32, 33, 35, 36, 38, 39, 43, 46, the western half of Section 34 as divided by a line at right angles to the dividing-line between Sections 32 and 34, Block VII.; all in the Tararua Survey District. Such rate to be an annually-recurring rate for twenty-six years; and shall be payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st January and the 1st July in each year.”

I hereby certify that the above special order was duly made in accordance with “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Eketahuna Road Board,
Eketahuna, 12th March, 1898.

SPECIAL ORDER No. 2.

Notice is hereby given that the following special order was made on Saturday, the 5th February, 1898, and confirmed on Saturday, the 12th March, 1898:—

“ That, for the purpose of securing payment of the sum of £100, being 10 per cent. additional to the sum of £1,000 already borrowed by the Board, under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for the purpose of construction of a portion of Mangatainoka Valley Road, a special rate of ⅜d. in the pound be made and levied on the rateable value for the time being of the following properties: namely, Sections 48, 49, 50, the northern half of 44, and the northern half of 47, Block VII.; Sections 21, 22, 23, 25, Block X.; Sections 1, 2, 3, 9, Block IX.; that portion of Section 6, Block IX., situated in the Eketahuna Road District, containing about 90 acres; and that portion of Section 8, Block IX., situated in the Eketahuna Road District, containing about 144 acres; all in the Survey District of Tararua. Such rate to be an annually-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st January and the 1st July in each year.”

SPECIAL ORDER No. 3.

Notice is hereby given that the following special order was made on Saturday, 5th February, 1898, and confirmed on Saturday, 12th March, 1898:—

“ That, for the purpose of securing payment of the sum of £8, being 10 per cent. additional to the sum of £80 already borrowed, under ‘The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,’ for the purpose of metalling Central Road, Parkville, a special rate of ¹⁄₁₆d. in the pound be made and levied on the rateable value for the time being of the following properties: namely, Sections 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 20, and 24, Block X., Tararua Survey District. To be an annually-recurring rate for twenty-six years, and shall be payable in two half-yearly instalments on the 1st January and 1st July in each year.”

Eketahuna Road Board,

Examination Shed appointed.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the power in me for this purpose vested by “The Customs Laws Consolidation Act, 1882,” I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do hereby appoint that the under-mentioned building shall be a place where goods may be deposited for examination on the landing thereof, namely,—

RAILWAY SHED, CHRISTCHURCH,
situated in the Railway Reserve at Sydenham, between Carlyle Street, Sydenham, and South Town Belt, Christchurch.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this eleventh day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight.

Commissioner’s Order No. 589.]

Outram Town Board authorised to erect an Electric Line in the Town of Outram.

IN exercise of the power and authority conferred upon me by “The Electric Lines Act, 1884,” I, Richard John Seddon, the Electric Telegraph Commissioner appointed under the said Act, do hereby authorise and license the Outram Town Board, subject to the provisions of “The Electric Lines Act, 1884,” to erect, construct, and maintain an electric line for light and power through the several streets in the Town of Outram, as such town is now constituted under “The Town Districts Act, 1881,” and which electric line is indicated by red lines shown on the map (marked B) deposited in the office of the Superintendent of Electric Lines, and signed by me as such Commissioner as aforesaid.

The said electric lighting and power line to be placed on the opposite side of the streets where any telegraph or telephone lines now exist, except by permission from the Electric Telegraph Commissioner; and where such telegraph or telephone lines are crossed either over or under by the electric light and power wires, the said electric light and power wires must be insulated in their entire length for at least 60 ft.—that is to say, for a distance of at least 30 ft. on each side of such under or over crossing—or such telegraph or telephone lines shall be insulated for a similar distance, at the expense of the Outram Town Board.

Where the erection of electric light and power wires necessitates the alteration of existing telegraph or telephone lines, the expense of such alterations to be borne by the above-named Town Board.

The difference of electrical potential between the electric-light mains shall not exceed 200 volts.

And I do hereby declare that this license shall come into force on and after the date of publication thereof in the New Zealand Gazette.

In case any addition to or extension of the electric line hereby licensed is at any time hereafter desired by the said Town Board, the same shall only be made upon license to be granted by the Electric Telegraph Commissioner, as provided by law.

Settlement of Claim for Compensation under “The Mining Act, 1891.”

Mines Department,
Wellington, 8th March, 1898.

IN pursuance of the provisions of the 153rd section of “The Mining Act, 1891,” it is hereby notified that the claim for compensation enumerated in the Schedule hereto, in respect to a Proclamation issued under the hand of His Excellency the Governor and the Public Seal of the Colony on the 27th day of December, 1897, declaring that the Wangapeka River, with its tributaries, in the Provincial District of Nelson, shall be watercourses into which tailings, &c., may be discharged, has been settled by agreement, as provided by the said Act.
