Rural Lands in the Auckland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the fourth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Section 14, about 300 acres forest land, undulating, fair soil; balance undulating fern and tea-tree land. Section 15, about 20 acres fern land; balance mixed forest. Section 16, about 200 acres mixed-forest land of fair quality; balance fern land. Section 17, about 200 acres heavy kahikatea forest and swamp; balance open land. Section 18, open land. Section 19, about 100 acres mixed forest; remainder undulating fern land. Section 23, on the Mangakahia River, and comprises about 100 acres forest, and balance open land with alluvial flats subject to floods. These lands are situated about twenty-one miles by road from Whangarei, and are well watered.

Section E.12, open land, adjoining Wairua Bridge site. Section 14, open land; 50 acres swamp; some good land along the river-banks. Section 15, generally level land, and a strip 20 chains wide along the river is of good quality. These lands are about twenty miles from Whangarei.

Nearly all heavy mixed forest; soil fair; good flat valley on Tarakiekie Stream.

Mixed-forest lands, and undulating, with level strips along river-banks; soil fair to good. These sections are well watered, and contain scattered totara-trees. Section 6 has some kahikatea swamp and high tea-tree. These lands are situated twenty-one miles from Whangarei.

Section 8, undulating forest land, containing 90 scattered totara-trees and 18 scattered kauri-trees. There are small alluvial flats along the river. Section 9, undulating to rough forest land, with small scattered totara-trees on the ridges. Sections 10 and 11, heavy mixed-forest lands; soil fair; good fencing-timber. These lands are all well watered, and situated about twenty-one miles from Whangarei and twenty-eight miles from Dargaville.

Section 1, level to undulating land, with some good kahikatea on Wairua River. Section 2, level to undulating; several manuka clumps and good alluvial flats on the river. Both lots bounded by navigable parts of the Mangakahia and Wairua Rivers, and are situated about twenty miles from Whangarei and twenty-eight miles from Dargaville.
