Officers under “The Fisheries Conservation Act, 1884,” Canterbury and South Canterbury Districts, appointed.

IT is hereby notified that, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred by section 9 of “The Fisheries Conservation Act, 1884,” the under-mentioned persons have been appointed Officers for the purposes of that Act for the districts set respectively opposite their names, viz.:—
Name and Address. District.
JAMES CLOTHIER, of Kaiapoi For that part of the Provincial District of Canterbury to the north of and including the Rakaia River, and for the waters of the Clarence River which are within the County of Marlborough.
FRANK SMITH, of Mona Vale, Albany For the South Canterbury District, comprising the Counties of Mackenzie, Geraldine, and Levels.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve, under paragraphs 94 and 97, Volunteer Regulations, 1895, of the transfer of Lieutenant-Commanding CORNELIUS LITTLE from the Auckland Naval Artillery Volunteers to the Auckland District Reserve Corps, and with effect from the 12th August, 1897.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Manganui Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886.”

MANGANUI ROAD BOARD.
RESULT of poll of ratepayers of the Salisbury Road Special Rating Area, taken on Monday, 9th August, 1897, upon the proposal—To raise a loan of £1,400, under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” for the purpose of metalling the Salisbury Road from its junction with the Beaconsfield Road northwards a distance of about four miles. To strike as security on this loan a special rate of 1gd. in the pound over the following lands, namely: Sections 19, Block IX.; 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 38, 40, 41, 43, 44, 45, 46, Block X.; 14, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, Block XIII.; 1, 2, 3, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, Block XIV., Huiroa Survey District:—Number of ratepayers on special roll, 29; number of votes exercisable, 30: Number of votes recorded for the proposal, 20; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 1.
I therefore declare the proposal carried.

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Public Works Act, 1894,” and any amendment thereof, and also of “The Government Railways Act, 1894,” I, John McKenzie, acting for the Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 1st day of September, 1897:—
PART I.—PASSENGERS: GENERAL FARES AND REGULATIONS.
TECHNICAL SCHOOLS SEASON AND COMMUTATION TICKETS.
Technical schools season tickets, available for any distance not exceeding fifty-five miles, and for three months from date of issue, will be issued to bonâ fide students and scholars not exceeding twenty years of age attending technical schools or classes registered with the Minister of Education, or the school of any bonâ fide teacher of music, subject to the following conditions:—The tickets will only be available for use when the holder is proceeding to or from the technical or music school for the purpose of receiving tuition.
