The days upon which tuition will be received must be the same in each week, and be stated in the certificate, and duly inscribed on the ticket.
The certificate of attendance at foot of ticket must be signed by certifying teacher on each day that holder of ticket attends the school.
The tickets are not transferable.
They will be charged as follows:—
For students and scholars not exceeding sixteen years of age .. 30s. 10s.
For students and scholars over sixteen but not exceeding twenty years of age 40s. 20s.
Twenty-trip commutation tickets, available for ten outward and ten return trips, and for three months from date of issue, will be issued to bonâ fide students and scholars attending technical schools or classes (including music-schools) registered with the Minister of Education.
The name of the purchaser, and the days of the week upon which tuition will be received, must be duly inscribed on the ticket, which will be available only for use by the purchaser when travelling to or from the technical school or class for the purpose of receiving tuition. If used for any other purpose the ticket will be forfeited.
Any portion of the ticket punched, detached, or not used before the date on which the ticket expires will not be available for use.
The certificate of attendance attached to the ticket must be signed by the certifying teacher on each day that holder of ticket attends the school.

Applications for technical schools season and commutation tickets must be accompanied by a certificate in the following form, signed by the director of the technical school or class or the teacher of music-school:—
I hereby certify that A.B., residing at __, whose age is __ years __ months, is a bonâ fide student or scholar in attendance at Technical [Music] School [Class]* __, and request that a † __ class ‡ ticket, available for use on § __, be issued to enable || __ to attend the Technical [Music] School [Class]; and I undertake to keep a roll of the attendance at the school [class], such roll to be open for inspection by any officer of the Railway Department. The attendance of A.B. at the school [class] will be certified by Mr. __, whose signature appears at the foot hereof.

Technical schools season and commutation tickets will be issued conditionally on a roll of attendance being kept at each technical or music school or class, such roll to be open for inspection by any officer of the Railway Department deputed for that purpose.
PART II.—LUGGAGE, PARCELS, HORSES, ETC.
Cancelled.—Safety small-arm cartridges, in packages not exceeding 14 lb. in weight, properly packed, will be charged single parcel rate. Cartridges other than safety small-arm will not be carried as parcels.
Packages containing dangerous goods (other than fuse, gunpowder, and safety small-arm cartridges, in packages not exceeding 14 lb., properly packed according to trade usage) will not be accepted for carriage through Parcels Department, but must in all cases be forwarded through Goods Department at goods rates.
Cartridges, safety small-arm, packed, will be charged single parcels rates.
Packages containing dangerous goods other than fuse, safety small-arm cartridges, and gunpowder, will not be accepted for carriage through Parcels Department. The maximum quantity of gunpowder accepted for carriage through Parcels Department by any one train will be 14 lb.
PART III.—GOODS REGULATIONS.
Food-products for Charitable Institutions.
Food-products donated to charitable institutions will be conveyed over the New Zealand Government railways at owner’s risk at half-rates.
Written application for this concession, supported by the recommendation of a Charitable Aid Board, must in all cases be made to District Manager before the goods are presented for carriage.
(5.) CLASS F.—HAY, TURNIPS, ETC.
Lime, native produce, in truck-loads of 6 tons, will be charged at the following rates, viz.:—
1 to 30 miles .. At the classified rates for Class F.
31 to 150 miles .. 3d. per truck per mile added to the rate for 30 miles.
Over 150 miles .. 1s. 3d. per truck for every five miles or fractional part thereof added to the rate for 150 miles.
Quantities under 6 tons will be charged as Class Q if cheaper than the above rates. The minimum quantity to be charged as Class Q will be 4 tons; any less quantity will be charged as such minimum, or as Class E (actual weight), single rate.
PART V.—CLASSIFICATION OF GOODS, LIVE-STOCK, PARCELS, AND LUGGAGE.

Bonuses for Encouragement of New Zealand Hemp (Phormium tenax) Industry.—Notice No. 430.

Bonus No. 1.
A BONUS of £1,750 is offered for a machine or process for dressing New Zealand hemp (Phormium tenax) which shall be an improvement on the machines or processes now in use, and which shall, after trial, be found to materially reduce the cost of production, improve the product, or increase the quantity of dressed fibre.
The following are the conditions:—

All applications for the bonus must be sent addressed to the Hon. the Minister for Agriculture, Wellington, and must reach him not later than the 31st December, 1897. Each application must be accompanied by a description of the machine or process, particularly stating improvements on present machines or processes, and also the cost at which the machine or process can be supplied.

The applicants must be prepared to submit their machines or processes to examination at such time and place as the Government may direct.

The Government shall appoint a committee of three or more experts, to whom all applications shall be submitted. Such committee shall, after perusal, state what machines or processes they deem worthy of consideration, and may inspect the same at any place within the colony; and, having so inspected the whole or any of them, may direct that the whole or any of them be brought for further trial to such place as they may think fit.
The cost of bringing the machines or appliances on to the ground, from within the colony, supplying the necessary shafting, motive-power, and buildings, to be defrayed by the Government. If any machine sent from beyond the colony is awarded the bonus or part thereof, then the cost of bringing such machine shall be borne by the Government.
