Rural Lands in the Marlborough Land District open for Sale or Selection.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, James Prendergast, the Administrator of the Government of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-second day of September, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Section 1 fronts on main Cheviot–Kaikoura Road, two miles from good boat-harbour at Omihi; low limestone ridges, with easy slopes, one-third of which can be ploughed; very good soil, at present in grass, tussock, and fern; well watered. Altitude, sea-level to 800 ft. Several good homestead-sites.

Section 2 fronts on main road, two miles from good boat-harbour at Omihi; low limestone hills, small flat along road makes good homestead-sites; 40 acres ploughable; good soil on limestone subsoil, at present in fern, grass, and tussock, with a patch of light bush; well watered. Altitude, 50 ft. to 800 ft.

Section 3 fronts on main road, two miles from good boat-harbour at Omihi; mostly low limestone ridges with easy slopes; a nice flat along road makes suitable homestead-sites; 30 acres ploughable; good soil on limestone subsoil, at present in mixed grasses, tussock, and fern, with a few acres of light bush; well watered. Altitude, 50 ft. to 900 ft.

Section 4 fronts on main road, two miles from good boat-harbour at Omihi; low limestone ridges, easy slopes. Altitude, 150 ft. to 1,000 ft.; well watered; good flat 15 or 20 acres for homestead-site; good soil on limestone subsoil, part ploughable, at present in mixed grasses, with 30 acres of light bush.

Section 5 fronts on main road, two miles and a half from good boat-harbour at Omihi; good limestone ridges with easy slopes. Altitude, 250 ft. to 1,000 ft., and well watered; small flat along road suitable for homestead; good soil, mostly in fern, with native grasses.

Section 6 fronts on main road, three miles from good boat-harbour at Omihi; good limestone ridges, with rich soil in the basins; about 120 acres ploughable; about 30 acres light bush, remainder open, well-grassed country, with a good deal of fern. Altitude, 300 ft. to 700 ft.; indifferently watered by springs to northward of main road. 75 chains wire fence on boundary, and 32 chains of internal fencing.

Section 4 fronts on main road, five miles from good boat-harbour at Omihi; open hilly country, rough in places; 50 acres rich flax swamp, 50 acres ploughable; good tussock on spurs, fern on slopes and gullies; good soil on formation of sandstone and clay; well watered. Altitude, 100 ft. to 800 ft. Good homestead-site on Conway River. 90 chains wire fence on boundary.

Section 5 fronts on Conway River, access by road reserve along Conway to Main Road, three miles from good boat-harbour at Omihi Bay; open hilly country and low downs; 160 acres ploughable; good tussock on spurs, fern on slopes and flats, and light bush in gullies. Good black soil on sandstone and clay formation; well watered. Altitude, 50 ft. to 800 ft. Good homestead-site on Conway River. 60 chains wire fence on boundary.

SECOND-CLASS LAND.

Section 7 fronts on main road, five miles from good boat-harbour at Omihi; soil varies from good limestone tops and good river-flats to poor shingle and clay ridges; almost all mixed bush (matipo, manuka, birch, hinau, matai, kohai, and scrub). Altitude, 350 ft. to 900 ft.; well watered. 40 chains wire fence on boundary, and 50 chains internal fence.

Section 8 fronts on main road, six miles from good boat-harbour at Omihi; all hills, with some easy slopes; light soil with clay near the surface; 80 acres light bush, remainder low tussock spurs with a good deal of fern. This section is capable of much improvement by ploughing the easy slopes, clearing the bush, and surface-sowing. There is a fairly good site for homestead along the road; well watered. Altitude, 400 ft. to 1,000 ft.

Good homestead-site on main road; well watered. Altitude, 300 ft. to 800 ft.

Sections 2 and 3 front on main road, nine miles from good boat-harbour at Omihi; rough hilly country, good tussock on tops of spurs, fern on the slopes, and a little light bush in the gullies; sandstone and clay formation. There is a good homestead-site on main road; well watered. Altitude, 200 ft. to 1,325 ft. 150 chains wire fence on boundary.
