IT is hereby notified that, in pursuance of the power and
authority vested by "The Inspection of Machinery
Act, 1882," and "The Inspection of Machinery Amendment
Act, 1894,"

ALEXANDER McVICAR

has been appointed an Inspector of Machinery for the
Hawke's Bay, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson North,
Nelson South, Canterbury, and Westland Districts.

Approving and appointing a Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this
purpose vested by "The Customs Laws Consolidation
Act, 1882," I, the Minister acting for the Commissioner of
Trade and Customs, do hereby approve and appoint the
under-mentioned warehouse to be a warehouse for the re-
ception of goods under bond, namely:—

Port of Dunedin.

Portion of a wood and iron building, with iron roof, situ-
ated on Harbour Board Lease, Anderson's Bay Road, to be
known as

BRISCOE'S KEROSENE BOND.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this twenty-

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Wairarapa North County.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of
the Wairarapa North County Council, is published in
accordance with the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans
Act, 1886."

WAIRARAPA NORTH COUNTY.

RESULT of a poll taken upon the 19th day of April, 1897, upon
a proposal to raise a loan of £180 for formation, &c., on the
Castle Hill Road:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 30, exercising 59
votes: Number of ratepayers who voted in favour of the
proposal, 20, exercising 41 votes; number of votes unre-
corded, 17; informal, 1.

As a majority in number of the ratepayers on the special
roll voted in favour of the proposal, and the number so
voting are entitled to more than one-half in number of the
total number of votes which can be exercised by the whole
number of ratepayers, I declare the resolution in favour of
the proposal to be carried.

COUNTY OF POHANGINA.—THE ASSOCIATION SPECIAL RATING
DISTRICT.

THE following is the result of a poll taken on Wednesday,
the 21st day of April, 1897, on a proposal of the Pohangina
County Council to raise the sum of £5,885 by way of loan,
under the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act,
1886," for the purpose of constructing roads, and to levy a
special rate on the value of the several properties within
the above special rating district:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 51; number of votes
exercisable, 52: Number of ratepayers who voted for the
proposal, 33; number of votes recorded for the proposal,
34; number of ratepayers who voted against the proposal,
3; number of votes recorded against the proposal, 3.

A majority of the ratepayers, exercising more than one-
half of the total number of votes exercisable, having voted
for the proposal, I therefore declare it to be carried.

ance with the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act,
1886."

RESULT of a Poll for Proposed Loan of £1,100, Fitzherbert
Road District, County of Oroua.

Fitzherbert Road Board.

RESULT of poll taken at Mr. Lionel Wallis's Wool-shed, Main
Road East; Mr. George Kendall's Wool-shed, No. 4 Line;
and Mr. G. G. Jonathan's, Linton, on Friday, the 9th April,
1897, upon a proposal to raise a loan of £1,100, under "The
Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886," for the cost of damage
incurred by the flood in April, 1895, in accordance with the
notices already published:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 280, representing
405 votes: 25 ratepayers, representing 59 votes, voted in
favour of the said loan; 7 ratepayers, representing 15 votes,
voted against the proposal; 248 ratepayers, representing 330
votes, did not vote; there was 1 informal vote: majority of
ratepayers against the proposal, 346.

And I therefore declare the same to be lost.

MANGANUI ROAD BOARD.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following special order was
made on Saturday, 6th March, 1897, and confirmed on
Saturday, 10th April, 1897:—

"That, to secure the repayment of a loan of £250 raised
under 'The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,'
for the purpose of forming and gravelling about 40 chains of
the Flint Road West from the Mountain Road westwards,
and of draining, clearing, and forming about 26 chains of
the upper portion of the road; to pay out of such loan the
cost of raising it; to strike as security on this loan a
special rate of 4d. in the pound over the following lands—
namely, Sections 72, 74, 76, 78, 82, 89, 91, 93, 95, of Block I.,
Ngaire Survey District. Such rate to be an annually-
