These sections are all undulating forest country, part of Section 4 being rough and broken. As a general rule, tops of bridges are 300 ft. to 500 ft. above valleys. Papa formation. The valley of Whitianga Stream is of fair width, the flats being covered principally with heavy manuka; the valley of the Mauku is similar, but bush on flats is heavier. Access to block is by Whitianga Road, which joins the main Ohura Road about one mile to west of Section 1; the distance from Stratford Railway-station about fifty miles. About two miles S.E. the Whitianga Road touches the Tangarakau River, and access by canoe can be got from Whanganui River to that point. The bush is generally light, consisting of tawa, rewarewa, hinau, tawhero, &c., with usual undergrowth. There is a small quantity of rimu, kahikatea, and matai in places along the valleys. Good homestead-sites on each section.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this thirteenth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven.
