Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Horowhenua County Council.

THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the Horowhenua County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

Horowhenua County Council.—Result of Poll for Riki-rangi Joint Loan.

THE following is the result of a poll, taken at Waikanae on the 11th day of November, 1896, on a proposal to borrow £400, in conjunction with the Hutt County Council, under "The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886," for the purpose of re-forming and metalling that portion of the Hutt-Waikanae Road between the Waikanae Railway-station and the Waikanae River eastwards; the portion of the loan to be raised by the Horowhenua County Council being £170:—

Number of ratepayers on special roll, 15, representing 17 votes: Votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 10, exercising 10 votes.

As a majority of the number of ratepayers, having a majority of the number of votes exercisable, voted for the proposal, I declare the same to be duly carried.

THE following notices, received from His Worship the Mayor of the City of Dunedin, are published in accordance with the provisions of "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886."

Dunedin City Council.

At a poll taken on the 16th day of November, 1896, on the proposal of the Dunedin City Council to raise by way of loan the sum of £7,000, in addition to the loan of £6,000 previously authorised and raised, for the purpose of erecting or providing an abattoir under the provisions of "The Abattoirs and Slaughterhouses Act, 1894," and to pledge as security for such loan (subject to the aforesaid loan of £6,000) the tolls, rents, and stallages of such abattoir, as defined by the aforesaid Act, the following votes were recorded, viz.—For the proposal, 679; against the proposal, 164; informal, 5: majority in favour, 515—and I have declared the proposal to be carried.

I, William Brooke Taylor, of Dunedin, Town Clerk, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all the proceedings required by "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886," towards obtaining the sanction of the burgesses to the proposal of the Dunedin City Council to raise by way of loan the sum of £7,000 in addition to the loan of £6,000 previously authorised and raised for the purpose of erecting or providing an abattoir under the provisions of "The Abattoirs and Slaughterhouses Act, 1894," and to pledge as security for such loan (subject to the aforesaid loan of £6,000) the tolls, rents, and stallages of such abattoir, as defined by the aforesaid Act, have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of the proposal has been duly carried.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled "The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882."

Arrangements for First Elections, &c., Matarawa Drainage District.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint

ERNEST BARNES

to be the Returning Officer to conduct the first election of Trustees of the Matarawa Drainage District;

Also, to appoint Wednesday, the 16th day of December, to be the day, and the office of the Wanganui County Council, Taylorville, to be the place, for holding the said election;

Also, to appoint Saturday, the 19th day of December, at 2 o'clock p.m., to be the time, and the Wanganui County Council office to be the place, for the first meeting of the Trustees of the said drainage district.

Settlement of Claim for Compensation under "The Mining Act, 1891."

Mines Department,
Wellington, 13th November, 1896.

IN pursuance of the provisions of the 153rd section of "The Mining Act, 1891," it is hereby notified that the claim for compensation enumerated in the Schedule hereto, in respect to a Proclamation issued under the hand of His Excellency the Governor and the Public Seal of the Colony on the 3rd day of July, 1894, declaring Nelson Creek and its tributaries, in the Provincial District of Nelson, water-courses into which tailings, &c., may be discharged, has been settled by agreement, as provided by the said Act.
