CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

  1. The term of lease is twenty-one years, with the option
    of renewal for a further period of twenty-one years, at a rent
    to be fixed by valuation, and improvements being secured to
    lessee as provided by "The Land Act, 1892," section 182.
    Each lessee is required to make the declaration as per form
    printed below.

  2. No person can lease more than one run.

  3. Residence on the run is compulsory, and commences
    within three years in bush or swamp land, and within one
    year in open or partly open land, unless the lessee obtain
    the consent of the Land Board to reside on other land in
    his occupation.

  4. Permanent improvements must be effected equal to one
    year's rental by the end of the first year, two years' rental
    by the end of the second year, and four years' rental at the
    end of the sixth year; and on bush land, in addition thereto,
    improvements must be made to the value of 10s. an acre if
    first-class land, or of 5s. an acre if second-class land.

  5. One half-year's rent and £1 1s. for the lease must be
    paid immediately the application is declared successful;
    the rent to be paid half-yearly in advance during the term of
    the lease. The next payment of rent will become due on
    the 1st September, 1897.

  6. The lessee has no right to purchase any part of the land;
    but he can select, with approval of the Land Board, 150
    acres around the homestead through which no road can be
    taken or other public privilege exercised without compen-
    sation.

DECLARATION.

  1. That I am of the age of seventeen years and upwards.

  2. That I am the person who, subject to the provisions of
    "The Land Act, 1892," am desirous of becoming the pur-
    chaser of a lease of Run No.† .

  3. That I am purchasing such lease solely for my own use
    and benefit, and not, directly or indirectly, for the use of
    any other person or persons whatever.

  4. That I am not already the holder of any such lease in
    any part of the colony, nor have I any interest in any such
    lease.

  5. That I am not the holder of any run under Part VI. of
    the aforesaid Act, nor have I any interest in any such
    run.

  6. That I do not own any freehold land or land held by
    lease or license of any kind whatever anywhere in the
    colony, either by myself or jointly with any other person,
    which, exclusive of the land I am now purchasing the lease
    of, will exceed in area 1,000 acres.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously be-
lieving the same to be true, and by virtue of an Act of the
General Assembly of New Zealand intituled "The Justices
of the Peace Act, 1882."

Rural Land, Southland, open for Selection on Perpetual Lease.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Invercargill, 30th September, 1896.

THE under-mentioned Crown land, having been surren-
dered in terms of section 156 of "The Land Act,
1885," will be open for selection on perpetual lease on and
after Thursday, the 10th December, 1896. If more than
one application be received for the section on the same day,
then the order of selection shall be decided by ballot on the
following day, at 11 a.m.

The improvements have to be paid for in cash on the day
on which the application is approved; if balloted for, at
the time of ballot.

Pastoral Runs, Canterbury, to be offered for Lease at Public Auction.

NOTICE is hereby given that the leases of the under-
mentioned pastoral runs will be offered for sale by
public auction at the local Lands and Survey Office, Timaru,
on Thursday, 7th January, 1897.

SCHEDULE.

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.—MACKENZIE COUNTY.—HALDON
AND GRAY'S HILLS STATIONS.

First-class Pastoral Country.

Run No. 69, part of Haldon Station, Mackenzie County:
About 19,025 acres; term of lease, fourteen years fixed
tenure from the 1st March, 1897; upset annual rental,
£350 for the first four years, and £400 per annum for the
remainder of the term.

Run No. 71, Gray's Hills Station, Mackenzie County:
About 29,862 acres; term of lease, fourteen years fixed
tenure from the 1st March, 1897; upset annual rental,
£350 for the first four years, and £450 per annum for the
remainder of the term.

Possession of these runs will be given to the purchasers of
the licenses on the 1st March, 1897.

Possession of these blocks will be given on the 1st Septem-
ber, 1897. The term of lease dates from the 1st March,
1898, and shall include in addition thereto the period
between the date of possession and the date of lease.

The leases will be sold subject to the general provisions
relating to pastoral leases of "The Canterbury Educational
Reserves Sale and Leasing Act, 1876," and "The Land Act,
1892," and any Acts amending the same. The leases—all
costs whereof shall be borne by the purchasers—will be from
the Canterbury College. The lease shall be subject to the
right of the Canterbury College or the Crown to dispose of
the freehold of the whole of the runs or any part thereof by
way of sale. Provision is made in the memorandum of
lease to meet this contingency. The rent will be payable
half-yearly, on the 1st days of March and September in
each year, six months' rent being paid on the fall of the
hammer.

Plans and full particulars as to terms of lease may be
obtained at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christ-
church, or from the Registrar of Canterbury College.

Kauri Timber, Auckland, for Sale by Public Auction.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Auckland, 5th September, 1896.

NOTICE is hereby given that the under-mentioned
kauri timber, situated upon the Kaimarama Block,
will be sold by public auction, at this office, on Friday, the
6th November, 1896, at 11 o'clock a.m.:—

1,100,000ft. kauri timber on unsurveyed land within
Block IV., Hastings Survey District; 500,000ft. kauri
timber on Section 2, Block XV., Coromandel, and Block IV.,
Hastings, and Sections 3 and 4, Block XVI., Coromandel,
and Block V., Hastings Survey District; and 200,000ft.
kauri timber on Sections 1 and 5, Block IV., Hastings
Survey District. Total quantity of timber, 1,800,000ft.;
upset price, £525.

Conditions of Sale.—One half the purchase-money to be
paid in cash or by marked cheque on the fall of the hammer,
the balance within twelve months. Timber to be removed
within two years from date of sale.
