Rural Lands in the Taranaki Land District open for Sale or Selection.

GLASGOW, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the second day of December, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-six; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the price at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Section 4, Block XVI., Ngatimaru.—A few acres of flat along Mangaehu Road, remainder good pastoral hills; the bush is principally tawa, with mixture of rata, rimu, &c., and undergrowth; good soil, papa formation. Portion of Terrace End Special Settlement.

Section 6, Block XV., Ngatimaru.—Fair pastoral land; hilly; covered with bush, chiefly tawa, with rimu, rata, &c.; papa formation, with clayey soil, well watered. Part of Terrace End Special Settlement.

Section 11, Block III., Omona.—River-terrace land, slightly broken, but good land; all forest, chiefly tawa, mixed with rata, rimu, matai, &c.; papa formation, with outcrop of limestone. Part of Terrace End Special Settlement.

Section 1, Block VII., Ngatimaru.—Fair pastoral land, about 20 acres flat. Weighted with £7 for 4 acres felled and grassed, to be paid with application. Papa formation, well watered. Part of Tanner Special Settlement.

Section 2, Block XIV., Ngatimaru.—Fair pastoral land, about 40 acres flat. The Tututawa Road, fronting section, is formed for horse traffic. All forest, of rimu, rata, tawa, &c., with usual undergrowth. Papa formation, well watered. Part of Eltham Special Settlement.

Section 3, Block VII., Mimi.—About one-third good, balance fair sheep-country; there are small flats near the Mimi Stream. The Mimi Road fronts the section, and is formed for horse and dray traffic. Fair soil, papa formation, well watered. Part of the Lepperton Special Settlement. Weighted with £30, which must be paid with application, for felling and grassing of 20 acres.

Section 1, Block III., Mimi.—About 40 acres of fern and tutu mostly level, remainder of section hilly and broken pastoral land; all forest, comprising rata, rimu, puriri, pukatea, hinau, rewarewa, tawa, and usual undergrowth; soil fair to good, well watered. Altitude is from sea-level up to 900ft. Access by horse-road.

Section 2, Block III., Mimi.—About 25 acres of fern land, balance heavy mixed bush, comprising rata, rimu, puriri, pukatea, kohekohe, whawhakou, hinau, tawa, rewarewa, and usual undergrowth; soil good, well watered. Altitude is from sea-level to 800ft. The section rises from level on the sea-coast to hilly and broken at the back. Access by horse-road.

Section 26, Block XV., Ngatimaru.—Small flats on road-frontage, remainder broken hills covered with forest, principally tawa, with rimu, rata, &c.; fair clayish soil.

Section 3, Block III., Omona.—Broken, a little good land on eastern boundary high up on ridges; all forest, principally tawa, mixed with rata, rimu, matai, &c.; papa formation, well watered.

Section 4, Block III., Omona.—Broken pastoral land, a little flat on the Mangaehu; all forest; same timber and soil as preceding section.

Section 9, Block XVI., Ngatimaru.—Broken pastoral land, with usual timber; papa formation, well watered.

Section 8, Block XVI., Ngatimaru.—Broken hills, pastoral land, all bush; same as preceding section.

Section 3, Block XV., Ngatimaru.—All forest; steep broken hills, covered chiefly with towai, tawa, &c.; poor papa formation.

Section 14, Block III., Omona.—All forest; about one-fifth agricultural, remainder pastoral land; flats along road-frontages; fair hills.

Section 20, Block III., Omona.—Broken, steep hills; all forest, chiefly tawa, with rata, rimu, towai, and usual shrubs; papa formation, with good soil.

All the above-mentioned sections are comprised in the Terrace End Special Settlement, the access being by way of Strathmore or Toko. Road-works are now being carried out on this settlement, calculated to render better access to the various sections in the block, a sum of money having been borrowed for the purpose. The block lies eastward of Stratford about twenty-one miles, and the Mangaehu River, running through the block, is navigable for canoes
