trict, known as part of the Springburn Tramway Reserve,
containing by admeasurement 4 acres 3 roods 11 perches,
more or less, being Section No. 3087 (in red), Block XII.,
Alford Survey District. Bounded towards the north-west
by a road-line, 103·8 links; towards the north-east by Rural
Sections Nos. 17007 and 20200, 4811 links; towards the
south-east by a road-line, 109 links; and towards the south-
west by a road-line: save and excepting the right of taking
any necessary line of road through the above reserve that
may be required to give access to the abutting properties:
be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as the same is
delineated on the plan deposited in the office of the Chief
Surveyor, Christchurch.

Vesting a Reserve in the Queenstown Borough Council.

GLASGOW, Governor.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twelfth
day of October, 1896.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS the land mentioned in the Schedule hereto
has been permanently reserved for a water-supply
for the Borough of Queenstown:

And whereas, in the opinion of the Governor, it is expe-
dient that the said land should be vested in the Queenstown
Borough Council:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in exercise
of the powers and authorities vested in him by the fourth
section of “The Public Reserves Act, 1881,” doth hereby
declare that, from and after the day of the date hereof, the
reserve mentioned in the Schedule hereto shall become
vested in “The Mayor, Councillors, and burgesses of the
Borough of Queenstown,” in trust, as a reserve for a water-
supply area for the Borough of Queenstown.


SCHEDULE.

OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.

ALL that parcel of land in the Otago Land District, contain-
ing by admeasurement 433 acres 3 roods 31 perches, more
or less, being sections numbered 4, 10, 14, and 19, Block I.,
Sections 1 and 2, Block VIII., Mid-Wakatipu Survey Dis-
trict, and bounded as follows: Towards the north-east by a
road-line and Crown lands, 13244 links; towards the north-
west by Crown lands, 6049 links and 2244 links; towards
the south-west by Crown lands, 5797 links and 4274 links;
and towards the south-east by Section 20 of Block I., Mid-
Wakatipu, and Section 19, Block XX., Shotover District,
3354 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or less; as
the same is delineated on the plan deposited in the office of
the Chief Surveyor, Dunedin.

Herring-nets for Lake Ellesmere.

GLASGOW, Governor.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twelfth
day of October, 1896.

Present:

His Excellency the Governor in Council.

WHEREAS by “The Sea-fisheries Act, 1894” (herein-
after termed “the said Act”), it is amongst other
things enacted that the Governor in Council may make
regulations for, amongst other things, limiting the size when
wet of the mesh in the square, or in extension from knot
to knot, of nets and seines to be used in fishing, or altogether
prohibiting the use of nets of any sort:

And whereas it is expedient to make the regulations
hereinafter set forth limiting the size when wet of the mesh
of nets which may be used for taking herrings in Lake
Ellesmere, in the Provincial District of Canterbury, and
providing that such nets shall only be used as set-nets:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
hereinbefore-recited power and authority, and acting by and
with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
said colony, doth hereby make the following regulations, and
doth declare that such regulations shall have force and effect
in Lake Ellesmere only.

REGULATIONS.

  1. The mesh of every herring-net shall measure diagonally,
    when prepared for use, wetted, and stretched, not less than
    1½in.; and every such net shall be used as a set-net only.

  2. The size of mesh in every case shall be ascertained by
    measuring the length on the diagonal, or between knot and
    knot of opposite corners, the net being first wetted, and
    being tanned, barked, or otherwise prepared for use. In
    case of dispute or doubt, a ½lb. weight shall be slung or
    attached to one knot of a mesh, in order to produce a fair
    strain or extension, and the space between the knots shall
    be measured forthwith while the mesh remains extended. If
    the net to be measured is dry, the part to be measured shall
    be soaked either in fresh or salt water for not less than ten
    minutes, and the mesh so soaked shall then be measured.

  3. Any person committing a breach of the above regu-
    lations shall be liable to a penalty of not less than one
    pound and not exceeding twenty pounds.

Notifying Lands in Nelson for Sale by Auction.

GLASGOW, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon
me by the one hundred and thirteenth section of “The
Land Act, 1892,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint Monday,
the twenty-sixth day of October, one thousand eight hundred
and ninety-six, as the time at which the lands enumerated
in the Schedule hereto shall be sold by public auction at
the Courthouse, Takaka; and I do hereby fix the prices at
which the said lands shall be sold as those mentioned in
the said Schedule hereto opposite the description of such
lands respectively.
