THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Presidency Port Officer, Madras, is published for
general information.

BAY OF BENGAL, WEST COAST.—GODAVARI DISTRICT, MADRAS
PRESIDENCY.
On and from the 1st October, 1895, a temporary light will
be exhibited from the mainland opposite the Sacramento
Shoal.
The light will be a dioptric port light of the fourth order,
red, fixed, showing over an arc of 180°, visible from seaward
from N.E. through W. to S.W. (approximately) about eight
miles.

Notice to Mariners, No. 33 of 1895.
MANUKAU HARBOUR ENTRANCE.
Marine Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 2nd September, 1895.
THE Harbourmaster at Manukau reports that the Emma
Spit at the entrance to that harbour has extended to
the north-north-east, and touches the line of the North Head
beacons. Vessels entering should keep the North Head
beacons in line until Huia Point opens off the South Head,
then open the beacons a little to the eastward. Vessels
bound outward should keep the North Head beacons open
to the eastward rounding the South Head until Huia Point
is closed, then keep in line. The South Head Spit has
washed entirely away.

Notice to Mariners, No. 34 of 1895.
WRECK OF BARQUE "THURSO," GREYMOUTH.

REFERRING to Notice to Mariners, No. 29 of 1895,
issued by this department on the 21st ultimo, the
following notice, received from the Greymouth Harbour
Board, is published for general information.

Notice is hereby given that the wreck of the barque
"Thurso," the hull of which is submerged, now lies inside
the entrance to the Grey River, 400ft. from the end of the
North Breakwater. The stern of the wreck is in a line with
the beacons for crossing the bar, and the bow about 50ft.
from the North Breakwater, leaving a clear passage in river
of 270ft. between the wreck and the South Breakwater.
The leading lights for crossing the bar at night will be
shown on the south side of the river, near the Cattle Wharf.
They lead midway between the wreck and South Break-
water, bearing W.N.W. magnetic. A bright light will be
shown abreast of the wreck on the South Breakwater. The
wharf beacons have been removed to the lower wharf now
being constructed, and lead clear of the wreck on a bearing
of W. by N. ½ N. magnetic.

Bonus for the Manufacture of Potassium Cyanide.
Department of Industries and Commerce,
Wellington, 17th January, 1895.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £1,000 will be
paid for the erection of a plant and the manufacture
in New Zealand of the first 200 tons of crude cyanide of
potassium from colonial produce.

  1. The plant must be capable of producing at least 70
    tons of crude cyanide of potassium annually.

  2. The crude cyanide of potassium so manufactured shall
    contain at least 70 per cent. of potassium cyanide.

  3. The bonus will be paid in two equal instalments, the
    first instalment being payable on the production of the first
    100 tons, and the second instalment on the production of
    the second 100 tons, of crude cyanide of potassium contain-
    ing the required percentage of potassium cyanide.

  4. On the completion of the plant, notice in writing must
    be sent to the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Wel-
    ington, who will appoint an officer to inspect the same,
    together with the raw material then available from which
    the cyanide of potassium is proposed to be manufactured.

  5. The officer so appointed shall from time to time inspect
    the process of manufacture, in order that he may satisfy
    himself that the whole of the cyanide of potassium is being
    manufactured from material of New Zealand production;
    and before any bonus is paid such officer will be required
    to certify that he is satisfied the crude cyanide of potassium
    is the product of New Zealand material only, and that it
    contains the required percentage of potassium cyanide.

  6. The bonus must be claimed for the first 100 tons on or
    before the 31st March, 1897, and for the second 100 tons on
    or before the 30th September, 1898.

Public Notice under "The Stock Act, 1893," re Swine-fever.

IT having been reported to me that the disease known as
"swine-fever" exists amongst pigs belonging to Mr.
J. C. Anderson, of Stirling, farmer, and running on his farm-
lands, comprising Sections 6, 7, 8, 9, in Block XIII., North
Molyneux District, I therefore, in accordance with sec-
tion 14, subsection (4), of "The Stock Act, 1893," hereby
declare such lands to be an infected place from which no
swine, carcase, or any portion thereof, or any fodder or fit-
tings, &c., shall be removed, except under the direction of an
Inspector of Stock.

Notice No. 421.

Wellington, 21st August, 1895.
IT having been reported to me that the disease known as
"anthrax" exists amongst stock running on certain
lands in the County of Waipa, I therefore, in accordance
with section 14, subsection (4), of "The Stock Act, 1893,"
hereby declare the under-mentioned lands to be an infected
place, from which no stock, carcase, or any portion thereof,
or any fodder or fittings, &c., shall be removed, except under
the direction of an Inspector of Stock:—
Farm known as "Holmwood," occupied by Mrs. A. L.
Martyn, of Ohaupo, comprising 600 acres, more or less.
Lands in occupation of Mr. D. Turnwald, Ohaupo, and
used as a slaughter-yard, comprising 30 acres, more or less;
and lands in occupation of D. Turnwald, bounded by farm
occupied by Mrs. A. L. Martyn, and shore of Horseshoe
Lake, 3 acres, more or less; lands in occupation of Mr.
G. A. Kusab, near Ohaupo, 250 acres, more or less.
