The general access to the whole of these sections will be to Hunterville; but, possibly, as the country eventually gets settled and roads are constructed, the outlet will be divided into two roads-systems—the easterly route being by Murray’s Track to Hunterville, and the westerly by the Turakina Valley Road to the same place. The eastern sections having an outlet by Murray’s Track will probably include Sections 26 and 28, Block XIV., Sections 5, 6, 8, and 11, Block XV., Maungakaretu; Sections 20, 17, 13, and 14, Block III., 31 and 22, Block II., 18,19, 21, 22, 23, Block VII., Tiriraukawa; and for these the route from Hunterville would be via Murray’s Track, fourteen miles dray-road, and to the furthest section, nine miles further by horse-road, and eleven miles of surveyed roads. To the nearer sections, ingress will be obtained by the Pukimapu and Wairepu Roads. The greatest distance to any of the sections offered, from Hunterville, being about thirty-four miles, twenty-three miles of which is by formed road; and to the nearest, about twenty-one miles, seventeen and a half being a formed road. For the western sections, tapped by the Turakina Valley Road, the general access from Hunterville would be by dray-road to Duncan’s Homestead, about nine miles; and a horse-road is made, or in course of construction, up the Turakina Valley for another thirteen miles, and the surveyed roads leading to the different sections will vary for a further distance of from six to eight miles, according to how far the roads from the eastern side may tap. The distance from Hunterville of the nearest section being offered will be about eighteen miles by this route, and the furthest about thirty miles. The general character of all these sections is hilly and undulating, with soil fair to good, loamy on the flats and clayey on ridges, on a papa formation; some heavily timbered, but a large number of the sections being lightly timbered, fencing material being scarce. Section 5, Block VI., Tiriraukawa, is weighted with £9 for improvements.

The access to these sections is from Pipiriki, from which they are distant, via Raetihi and the Makotuku Valley Road, about twenty-two miles and a half, the last mile being a horse-road only. Section 11 is level, but Section 10 is hilly. Both have good volcanic soil on a papa formation, and are heavily timbered and well watered.

These sections lie southerly from the Pipiriki–Karioi Road, the access being from Pipiriki; and for Section 1, Block X., the approach is by the main road for about twelve miles, and a further two miles by a surveyed road only. For Sections 19 and 3 the main road is followed on to Raetihi, distant about sixteen miles from Pipiriki, after which the Hukaroa Road is taken for another three-quarters of a mile to Section 19, and about three miles to Section 3. The sections are rather hilly, with good volcanic soil on a papa formation, well watered and heavily timbered.

These sections are situated eastward from Ohakune (on the Pipiriki–Karioi through road), and the access will be from Pipiriki by the road mentioned. For Sections 2, Block I., 1, Block II., and 5 and 6, Block V., the dray-road is left at about twenty-seven miles, and the furthest distance by surveyed road only to the sections is from one and a half to two miles. For the southern sections 23 and 24, the main road is left about twenty-eight miles from Pipiriki, the sections being distant about a further one mile and a quarter by surveyed road only. All the sections are level or easy sloping country, with a light soil, and heavily timbered.

These two sections are situated in the Makotuku Valley, the access being from Pipiriki, from which they are distant about twenty-three miles, via Raetihi and Makotuku Valley; about nineteen miles and a half being by dray-road, and the remaining three miles and a half by surveyed road only. The land is level, heavily timbered, and the soil is good.
