A PROCLAMATION.
IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred by
the one hundred and sixty-second section of “The Land
Act, 1892,” and of all other powers and authorities enabling
me in this behalf, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare
that the block of land described in the Schedule hereto shall
be and the same is hereby set apart and declared open for
special settlement.
SCHEDULE.
WAIKOPIRO IMPROVED FARM SPECIAL SETTLEMENT.
ALL that area in the Hawke's Bay Land District, containing
by admeasurement 1,880 acres, more or less, being part of
Waikopiro Block. Bounded towards the north-east by
Native land; towards the east generally by Crown land;
towards the south-west generally by Native land and Crown
land; and towards the north-west generally by the Mana-
watu River.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right
Honourable David, Earl of Glasgow; Knight
Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of
Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and
Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government
House, at Wellington, this fifteenth day of
January, in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-five.

Proclaiming Lands within Jurisdiction of Validation Court.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the third section of “The Native Land
(Validation of Titles) Act, 1893,” as amended by the
seventh section of “The Native Land (Validation of Titles)
Act, 1894,” it is enacted that there shall be within the colony
a Court of Record, to be called “The Validation Court,”
having jurisdiction over lands situate within any district
that the Governor may proclaim to be within the juris-
diction:
Now, therefore, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor
of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of
the power and authority vested in me by the hereinbefore in
part recited Act, do hereby proclaim the lands situate within
the districts described in the Schedule hereto to be within
the jurisdiction of the Validation Court constituted by “The
Native Land (Validation of Titles) Act, 1893.”
SCHEDULE.
AUCKLAND DISTRICT.
ALL that area bounded towards the west and north generally
by the sea; towards the east generally by a right line from
Lottin Point to the 39th parallel of latitude at its intersection
by the Napier and Taupo Road; thence by the 39th parallel
of latitude to its intersection by the 176° 30' meridian of
longitude; thence by a right line to trig. station on Te
Iringa; thence towards the south by a right line to the
summit of Ruapehu; again towards the west by a right line
to Kakaramea Trig. Station; and again towards the south
generally by a right line to a point on the boundary between
the Provincial Districts of Auckland and Taranaki due east
of White Bluff; and thence by a right line to White Bluff:
including all adjacent islands.
WELLINGTON DISTRICT.
All that area bounded towards the north generally by a
right line due east from White Bluff to the boundary between
the Provincial Districts of Auckland and Taranaki; thence
by a right line to Kakaramea Trig. Station; thence by a
right line to the summit of Ruapehu; thence by a right line
to the trig. station on Te Iringa; thence by a right line to
the 39th parallel of latitude at its intersection by the
176° 30' meridian of longitude; thence by the 39th parallel
of latitude to the Waihua River, and by that river to the
sea: and towards the east, south, and west generally by the
sea. Also all the Middle Island, Stewart Island, Chatham
Islands, and all adjacent islands.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right
Honourable David, Earl of Glasgow; Knight
Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of
Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and
Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies,

“The Counties Act, 1886,” brought into Force in Cheviot
County.—Arrangements for First Elections, &c.

A PROCLAMATION.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in me by “The Counties Act, 1886,” and
“The Cheviot County Act, 1893,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby pro-
claim and declare that “The Counties Act, 1886,” shall
come into force in Cheviot County, as described in the First
Schedule hereto, on the first day of February, one thou-
sand eight hundred and ninety-five; and, in exercise of
the like powers and authorities, I do hereby divide the said
county into six ridings, to be called the Hawkswood Riding,
the Seaward Riding, the Waiau Riding, the Lowry Riding,
the Hurunui Riding, and the Kaiwara Riding respectively;
and do hereby declare that the boundaries of such ridings
shall be those set forth under the respective names of the
said ridings in the Second Schedule hereto:
And I do hereby further declare that the number of
members to be elected for each of the said ridings shall be
one; and that Wednesday, the twentieth day of February,
one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, shall be the
day on which the election of the first Council of the said
County of Cheviot shall take place; and that Wednesday,
the twenty-seventh day of February, one thousand eight
hundred and ninety-five, at twelve noon, shall be the time,
and the post-office, Cheviot, shall be the place, at which the
first meeting of the said Council shall be held.
FIRST SCHEDULE.
CHEVIOT COUNTY.
BOUNDED towards the north-east generally by a line along the
middle of the River Conway, from the confluence of that river
with the River Gelt to the ocean; thence towards the south-
east by the ocean to the mouth of the Hurunui River;
thence towards the south generally by a line along the
middle of the said Hurunui River to a point due west of the
foot of the main spur leading to Lowry Peaks; thence
towards the north-west generally by a line due east to the foot
of the main spur, thence by the main spur and summit of
the Lowry Peaks Range to a point due west of Mount Par-
nassus; thence towards the north by a line due east to Mount
Parnassus; and thence again towards the north-west by a
right line to the confluence of the River Gelt with the River
Conway.
SECOND SCHEDULE.
HAWKSWOOD RIDING.
BOUNDED towards the north-east generally by a line along the
middle of the River Conway, from the confluence of that river
with the River Gelt to the ocean; thence towards the south-
east by the ocean to the mouth of the River Waiau; thence
towards the south-west generally by a line along the middle
of the said Waiau River to a point due west of Mount Par-
nassus; thence towards the north by a line due east to
Mount Parnassus; and thence again towards the north-west
by a right line to the confluence of the River Gelt with the
River Conway.
SEAWARD RIDING.
Bounded towards the north-east by the Hawkswood
Riding, hereinbefore described; towards the south-east by
the ocean to the mouth of the Hurunui River; thence
towards the south-west by a line along the middle of the
said Hurunui River to a point due south of Section No. 6,
Block 19, Lowry Peaks Survey District; thence towards the
west generally by a line due north to that section and by the
road forming its eastern and part of its north-eastern bound-
aries; thence by Sections Nos. 17, 16, 15, and 13, all of
Block 16, Lowry Peaks Survey District, to the Homestead
Road; thence by the said Homestead Road to Hall Street
(Town of Mackenzie), by said Hall Street, Hall Road, Par-
