And whereas general harbour regulations were made by
Order in Council dated the fifth day of June, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-three, and published in the New
Zealand Gazette No. 49, of the seventh day of the same
month :

And whereas it is desirable that the said regulations should
be amended as hereinafter provided :

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers
and authorities vested in him by the said Act, and by and
with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the
said colony, doth hereby make the regulation set forth in
the Schedule hereto, and doth hereby declare that the regu-
lation hereby made shall, on and after the first day of March
next, be deemed to form part of the said General Harbour
Regulations.

SCHEDULE.

For the purposes of the said General Harbour Regulations
" gunpowder " and " explosives " shall be read as defined in
section 2 of " The Explosives Act, 1882," excepting always
safety cartridges and caps for cartridges, and caps for muzzle-
loading rifles and fowling-pieces, and shall include all mineral
oil or products thereof which give off an inflammable vapour
at a temperature of less than 110Β° Fahrenheit.

" Safety cartridges " shall mean cartridges for small-arms
which are so closed as to prevent any explosion in one car-
tridge being communicated to other cartridges, and of which
the cases can be extracted from the weapon after firing.

The foregoing definitions of " gunpowder " and " explo-
sives " shall respectively take the place of those hitherto
existing in the said General Regulations.

fee, &c., Waitaki District.

N exercise of the powers vested in me by " The Animals
Protection Act, 1880," and the Acts amending the same,
I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of
New Zealand, do hereby notify that cock pheasants and
quail may be taken or killed within the Waitaki District,
consisting of the County of Waitaki, from the first day of
June to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight
hundred and ninety-five, both inclusive; and that hares
may be taken or killed within the said district from the first
day of April to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-five, both inclusive (subject never-
theless to the restrictions in the said Acts mentioned). And
I do further notify that licenses to take or kill such game
within the said district shall be issued on payment of the
sum of twenty shillings each, and that licenses to sell game
and native game shall be issued on payment of the sum of
five pounds each; and the Chief Postmaster at Oamaru is
hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses.

And I do further declare that native game, excepting tui,
huia, white heron, and crested grebe, may be taken or killed
within the above-mentioned district from the first day of
April, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, to the
thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and
ninety-five, both days inclusive.

As witness the hand of Sir James Prendergast, Knight,
Chief Justice, for and on behalf of His Excel-
lency the Governor, and as his duly-appointed
Deputy, this twenty-first day of February, one
thousand eight hundred and ninety-five.

fee, &c., Hawke's Bay District.

Protection Act, 1880," and the Acts amending the
same, I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, do hereby notify that cock pheasants and
Californian quail may be taken or killed within the Hawke's
Bay District, consisting of the Counties of Hawke's Bay,
Patangata, Waipawa, and Wairoa, together with all the
town districts and boroughs therein, from the first day of
May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, to the
thirtieth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and
ninety-five, both inclusive (subject nevertheless to the re-
strictions in the said Acts mentioned). And I do further
notify that licenses to take or kill such game within the said
district shall be issued on payment of the sum of ten shil-
lings each, and that licenses to sell game and native game
shall be issued on payment of the sum of five pounds
each; and the Chief Postmaster at Napier, and the Post-
masters at Waipawa, Woodville, Wairoa, Danavirke,
Hastings, Mohaka, Waipukurau, Norsewood, Ormondville,
Porangahau, and Wimbledon are hereby appointed to sign
and issue the said licenses.

And I do further declare that native game, excepting tui,
huia, white heron, and crested grebe, may be taken or killed
within the above-mentioned district from the first day of
May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, to the
thirtieth day of June, one thousand eight hundred and
ninety-five, both days inclusive.

As witness the hand of Sir James Prendergast, Knight,
Chief Justice, for and on behalf of His Excellency
the Governor, and as his duly-appointed Deputy,
this twenty-third day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-five.

fornian and Australian quail may be taken or killed within
the Auckland District, consisting of the Auckland Provincial
District, excepting the Counties of Cook, Waiapu, Tauranga,
Rotorua, Whakatane, East Taupo, and Wairoa, and excepting
also the islands known as the Little Barrier and the Hen
and Chickens, and that portion of the Lake Road District,
County of Waitemata, bounded on the north by the Wairau
Creek from its mouth to the main road from Devonport to
Waiwera, on the west by the said road to its junction with
the Seaview Road, on the south by that road to the sea, and
on the east by the sea to the point of departure, from the
first day of May, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-
five, to the thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight
hundred and ninety-five, both inclusive (subject neverthe-
less to the restrictions in the said Acts mentioned). And I
do further notify that licenses to take or kill such game
within the said district shall be issued on payment of the sum
of twenty shillings each, and that licenses to sell game and
native game shall be issued on payment of the sum of five
pounds each; and the Chief Postmasters at Auckland and
Thames are hereby appointed to sign and issue the said
licenses.

And I do further declare that native game, excepting tui,
huia, white heron, and crested grebe, may be taken or killed
within the above-mentioned district, except in the portions
thereof hereinbefore described, from the twelfth day of April,
one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five, to the thirty-
first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-
five, both days inclusive.

As witness the hand of Sir James Prendergast, Knight,
Chief Justice, for and on behalf of His Excellency
the Governor, and as his duly-appointed Deputy,
this twenty-third day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-five.

I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, do hereby notify that native game, excepting tui,
huia, white heron, and crested grebe, may be taken or killed
within the Geraldine County District, consisting of that part
of the County of Geraldine lying north of the Ophi River,
from the first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and
ninety-five, to the thirtieth day of June, one thousand eight
hundred and ninety-five, both inclusive (subject, neverthe-
less, to the restrictions in the said Act mentioned). And I
do further notify that licenses to sell native game shall be
issued on payment of the sum of five pounds each; and the
