hundred pounds—shall be borne by the County Council of
Pahiatua, and that a proportion of the cost of constructing
the said bridge—namely, sixteen hundred pounds—shall be
borne by the Pahiatua Borough Council, and such propor-
tions shall be paid by the said local authorities accordingly.
SCHEDULE.
That bridge over the Mangatainoka River known as the
Mangatainoka Bridge, together with the approaches thereto
for a distance of 10 chains at both ends of the said bridge,
situated on the Mangahao Road, partly in the Borough of
Pahiatua and partly in the Pahiatua County, as the site of
the said bridge is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 22500,
deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Sur-
vey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and
thereon marked in red.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this twenty-sixth day of January, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-five.

Testing Reserves in the Borough of Alexandra.

WHEREAS by section nineteen of “The Land Act,
1892,” it is enacted that the Governor may reserve
lands within any existing borough or town district under the
provisions of section seventeen of the said Act, provided that
such reserves shall only be made in cases where reserves for
the same purpose do not exist therein, or, if existing, do not
equal or exceed the amount of reserves authorised to be
made under the said section seventeen:
And whereas the existing reserves for the Borough of
Alexandra do not equal the amount of reserves authorised to
be made under section seventeen of “The Land Act, 1892,”
aforesaid:
Now, therefore, I, James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Jus-
tice, in the name and on behalf of His Excellency the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, and as his duly-
appointed Deputy, in pursuance and exercise of the powers
conferred upon me by the nineteenth section of “The Land
Act, 1892,” and of all other powers enabling me in this
behalf, do hereby declare that the lands enumerated in the
first column of the Schedule hereto shall be and the same
are hereby reserved for the purpose stated opposite the de-
scription of such lands in the second column of the Schedule
hereto, for the benefit of the Borough of Alexandra, as con-
stituted under the provisions of “The Municipal Corporations
Act, 1876,” on the first day of October, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-eight.

Warrant authorising Toll-charges on a Government Road.

WHEREAS by section 143 of “The Public Works Act,
1894” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is pro-
vided that no toll shall be payable unless the scale of tolls
is publicly notified for fourteen days before becoming first
payable:
And whereas by section 105 of the said Act it is, inter alia,
enacted that all powers, rights, duties, and liabilities there-
by vested in and imposed upon a Road Board, in the case
of a Government road shall be vested in and imposed upon
the Governor:
And whereas by Order in Council dated the twenty-third
day of January, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five,
that portion of the road across the Mokau Ferry, with
approaches thereto, was declared a Government road, and it
is expedient to fix the scale of tolls to be collected at the said
ferry:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the
Colony of New Zealand, by his duly-appointed Deputy,
Sir James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice, in pursuance
of the hereinbefore-recited authority, doth hereby authorise
and fix the charges named in the Schedule hereto as the tolls
to be levied on the Mokau Ferry in the several cases and
between the hours specified in the said Schedule.

Regulations for Licensing Colonial Pilots.

IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority con-
ferred upon me by section thirty-one of “The Ship-
ping and Seamen's Act Amendment Act, 1894,” I, David,
Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zea-
land, do hereby prescribe the following regulations for the
licensing of colonial pilots:—
REGULATIONS.
Licenses without Examination.
- Any person who, within three years prior to the 1st
January, 1895, has, for a continuous period of not less than
twelve months, either commanded a vessel of not less than
300 tons register trading on the coasts of New Zealand, or
been engaged in piloting similar vessels on the coasts of New
Zealand, may, subject to the approval of the Marine Depart-
ment, receive a license as colonial pilot without undergoing
examination, provided that he has held during the said
period of twelve months a certificate of competency or
service of a grade not lower than that of master home
trade, and satisfies the Marine Department as to his sobriety
and general trustworthiness.
Licenses by Examination.

An applicant for a colonial pilot's license shall be not
more than fifty years of age, and must hold a certificate of
competency of a grade not lower than that of master ordi-
nary (foreign-going). -
He must have served continuously for either one year
as master, or three years as first mate, or five years as second
