Rural Lands in the Taranaki Land District open for Sale or Selection.
GLASGOW, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of "The Land Act, 1892," I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the sixth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-five; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity; or, in respect of any lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of "The Land Act, 1892."

About eighteen miles from Stratford. All forest; about one-sixth level, but low-lying and moist; hills low; good soil. The Akama Road is formed for horse-traffic to the middle of Section 9, starting from the East Road; the remainder of the road is being felled and cleared.

Twenty miles from Waitara and immediately north-east of Pukearuhe, to which there is a good road. There are about 105 acres of grassed land fit to carry stock at once. The northern part is good high terrace land, mostly all covered with light bush; in other parts there are about 20 acres of good terrace land. The remainder of section is one large gully with numerous sharp spurs and steep watercourses, covered with rewarewa, hinau, towhai, wharangi, a little kohekohe, mangio, and puriri; thick undergrowth of kiekie, &c. Weighted with improvements valued at £85 8s. 6d.

About ten miles from Stratford, on the Gordon Road, which is metalled past the section; all flat; good soil, papa formation; well watered. Rimu, tawa, and usual undergrowth.

About two miles from Pukearuhe, to which there is a good road. The land is broken, with one gully; about one-third good land, balance broken spurs, fit only for pastoral purposes; papa formation, soil fair; well watered. Timber on flats, kahikatea; on spurs, rata, rimu, tawa, and towhai, with thick undergrowth. Originally in Lepperton Special Settlement Association Block.
