THE following special order, made by the Cook County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Counties Act, 1886.”

COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.
A SPECIAL ORDER made by the Cook County Council on the 22nd June, 1894, and confirmed at a subsequent meeting held on the 5th October, 1894:—
“Resolved, “That the boundaries of the Patutahi and Arai Road Districts be amended, by taking from the Patutahi Road District Sections 95, 98, 100, Blocks XI. and VII., Patutahi Survey District, and adding them to the Arai Road District, as more particularly defined in the attached Schedule.”
I certify that the foregoing special order has been made in accordance with the Counties and Road Boards Acts, and that all the several requirements thereof have been complied with.

Schedule I.—Description of the Amended Boundaries of the Arai Road District, Cook County, Land District of Hawke’s Bay.
Commencing at Pari-kauapa, Trig. Station 136, thence by a line bearing north-easterly, being the north-west boundary of Waimata Native Reserve; thence easterly by the Waimata River to the south-east corner of Section No. 101 of Blocks VI. and X., Patutahi Survey District; thence northerly by the eastern boundary of the said section to the south-west corner of Section No. 97 of Blocks VII. and XI.; thence easterly by lines forming the northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 98 and 95 of Block XI., Patutahi Survey District, to the Arai River; thence easterly by the said river to its confluence with the Waipaoa River; thence southerly by the Waipaoa River and the sea to Paritu; thence north-westerly by a line, being the southern boundary of the Cook County, to opposite the junction of the Ruakituri River with the Hangaroa River; thence northerly to the confluence of the Mangaotara Stream; thence north-easterly by the said stream and by a line to the western boundary of the Whakaongaonga No. 2 Block; thence southerly and easterly by lines to the east corner of Subdivision No. 1 of the said block; thence northerly by the eastern boundary of Section No. 1, Block XIV., Patutahi Survey District, to the southern boundary of the Waimata Native Reserve; thence westerly by the southern boundary of the said Native reserve to Trig. Station 136, being the point of commencement.
Schedule 2.—Description of the Amended Boundaries of the Patutahi Road District, Cook County, Land District of Hawke’s Bay.
Commencing at the Hangaroa River, thence north-easterly by lines being the south-east boundaries of Hangaroa-Matawai No. 2 and Okahuatiu No. 2c Blocks to Poha Trig. Station No. XIII.; thence easterly and northerly by lines being the southern and eastern boundaries of Okahuatiu No. 2A Block; thence north-easterly by the Mangatoitoi Stream, and south-easterly by the Waikakariki and Waikaahu Streams, to the junction with the Waipaoa River; thence southerly by the said river to the confluence of the Arai River; thence south-westerly by the Arai River to the north-east corner of Section No. 95 of Block XI., Patutahi Survey District; thence westerly by lines forming the northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 95 and 98 of the said block and Section No. 100 of Blocks VII. and XI., Patutahi Survey District; thence southerly by a line being the western boundary of the said Section No. 100 to the Waimata River; thence westerly and south-westerly by the said river and a line to Pari-kauapa Trig. Station No. 136; thence westerly and north-westerly by lines being the south and south-west boundaries of Sections Nos. 6 and 4, Block IX., Patutahi Survey District, and Section No. 7, Block VIII., Hangaroa Survey District, to the Hangaroa River; thence northerly by the said river to the point of commencement.

THE following is the result of a poll taken on Saturday, the 3rd November, 1894, on a proposal to borrow £900 for forming and metalling on Road 61 (Omata Road) from Waterfall Creek westward, to give access to Sections 12 and 20, Block IX., Mangahao:—
Number on special roll, 13; representing 13 votes: Number of ratepayers who voted in favour of the proposal, 7; votes not recorded, 6.
I therefore declare the proposal carried.

RESULT of poll taken at Kumeroa, on the 12th day of November, 1894, upon a proposal to raise a loan of £500 for the Cross Road:—
Number of ratepayers on special roll, 11, representing 17 votes: Number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal, 7, representing 13 votes; number of ratepayers who voted against the proposal, 0; number of ratepayers who did not record their votes, 4, representing 4 votes.
I declare the proposal to be carried.

Protection of Seals on Macquarie Island.

THE following regulations for the protection of seals, which have been received from the Government of Tasmania, are published for general information. These regulations apply to Macquarie Island and the islands adjacent thereto.

THE Governor in Council has been pleased, in accordance with the provisions of section 12 of “The Fisheries Act, 1889” (53 Vict., No. 11), to approve of the following regulations made by the Commissioners of Fisheries under the authority of that Act.

PROTECTION OF SEALS.

The term “fur-seal,” used in these regulations, shall mean the southern fur-seal—Arctocephalus cinereus (Otaria).
-
No person shall take or kill, or cause to be taken or killed, any fur-seal under the age of ten months, or any female fur-seal of any age; and no person shall buy or sell, or cause to be bought or sold, or shall offer or expose for sale, or shall have in his possession or control, any fur-seal under the age of ten months, or any female fur-seal of any age, or the skin of any such fur-seal.
- Any person committing any breach of these regulations shall for every such offence forfeit and pay a penalty not exceeding £5.
