Rural Lands in the Canterbury Land District open for Sale or Selection.
GLASGOW, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of "The Land Act, 1892," I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the fourteenth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-four; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of "The Land Act, 1892."

These sections are situated at the junction of Bates's, McClintock's, and Anama Roads, at a distance of from three to four miles in a westerly direction from the Westerfield Railway-station, and comprise open level land of light quality, fairly grassed. Some of the sections are intersected by county water-races. Section 36312 is weighted with £59 17s., being the value of about 133 chains of fencing; and Section 36315 with £34 4s., for about 76 chains of fencing.

This section is situated about two miles north of the Alford Forest Post-office, fronting the north branch of the Ashburton River, adjacent to the property of A. McFarlane, Esq., and comprises flat land, swampy in places and requiring draining, and hilly land with light soil, covered with bush and scrub.

This section is situated in the South Rangitata Township, about three-quarters of a mile south-west of the railway-station of that name, and comprises open level land with light sandy soil. This section is weighted with £7, being the value of fencing.

These sections are situated south-west of, and about two miles from, the South Rangitata Railway-station, and comprise open, level light land, suitable for pastoral purposes. Section 27, Reserve 1381, is weighted with £29, being the value of fencing and cottage; and Section 41, Reserve 1371, is weighted with £11, being the value of fencing.

This section is situated between the Rangitata and Orari Rivers, at a distance of about three miles and a half in a south-westerly direction from the South Rangitata Railway-station, and comprises open plain land of light quality. This section is weighted with £28, being the value of hut, fencing, and cultivation.

This section is situated adjacent to and north-west of the Township of Orari, about one mile from the railway-station of that name, and comprises for the most part open plain land of inferior quality. This section is weighted with £36, being value of dwelling-house, outbuildings, and fencing.

This section is situated west of, and about half a mile distant from, the Orari Railway-station, and comprises open level light land, suitable for pastoral purposes.

These sections are situated on the south bank of the south branch of the Waihi River, about twelve miles in a north-westerly direction from Geraldine and six miles from Woodbury. They comprise open, well-grassed, broken land, suited for pastoral purposes, and having an elevation of about 2,000ft. above sea-level. The access to the land is difficult.

This section is situated in the Elephant Hill Village Settlement, fronting on the main road, at a distance of about twelve miles in a westerly direction from the Waitaki North Railway-station, and comprises open plain land of fair quality. This section is weighted with £16 16s. 6d., being the value of hut, fencing, and cultivation.

This section is situated on Lockhart's Creek, adjacent to the Waratah property of A. B. Smith, Esq., and has frontage to the Mackenzie Pass Road, about thirteen miles north-west of the Albury Railway-station; it comprises steep hilly land, fairly well grassed, suitable for pastoral purposes.
UNSURVEYED FIRST-CLASS LAND.

This section is situated adjacent to Messrs. T. and J. Harrison's Clent Hills Homestead, and comprises open land having an elevation of about 2,000ft. above sea-level.
