way Reserve (Neill Road); bridging Mangatoki Stream on Skeet Road; constructing approaches and reducing grades on Skeet Road between Hastings Road and Mangatoki Stream; and metalling Skeet Road from Hunter Road to Hastings Road, in Blocks XVI., Kaupokonui; XIII., Ngai re; IV., Waimate; and I., Hawera. The said special rate shall be payable (if required) half-yearly in equal instalments on the 1st day of January and the 1st day of July in each year of aforesaid period.
I hereby certify that the above special order was duly adopted at a special meeting of the Waimate Road Board on the 17th of October, 1893, and confirmed at a special meeting on the 17th of November, 1893.

By-law regulating Width of Tires on Wheels of Vehicles to be used on Hunter ville-Turangarere-Tokaanu Road, Waioura-Pipiriki Road, Moawhango-Turangarere Road, and Pipiriki-Karioi Road.
IN pursuance and in exercise of the powers conferred by section 17 of “The Public Works Acts Amendment Act, 1887,” I, Patrick Alphonsus Buckley, the Minister acting for the Minister for Public Works, do by this notice make the following by-law regulating the width of tires to be used on all vehicles, whether plying for hire or not, upon the Government road from Hunter ville via Turangarere to Tokaanu, upon the Government road from Waioura, via Karioi, to Pipiriki, upon the Government road from Moawhango to Turangarere, and also upon the Government road from Pipiriki to Karioi, that is to say:—
The width of tire of any wheel used on any vehicle upon either of the said roads shall bear the following proportion to the number of horses which may be used to draw such vehicle, namely:—

And if any person shall commit a breach of this by-law he shall be liable to a penalty of an amount which shall be in the discretion of the Court fixing the same, but not exceeding five pounds sterling.

Bonus on Starch manufactured in New Zealand.—Amended Notice.

Wellington, 15th November, 1893.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of two pounds (£2) a ton will be paid on 100 tons of starch manufactured in the Colony of New Zealand in each of the years 1893 and 1894.
CONDITIONS.

Notice of intention to claim the bonus for 100 tons in 1893 must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later than the 31st December, 1893. Notice of intention to claim the bonus for 100 tons in 1894 must be given in the same manner not later than the 31st December, 1894.

The claims must be made respectively before the 31st December, 1893 and 1894.

The first claimant who proves to the satisfaction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the conditions is to be the recipient of the bonus.

Evidence to be produced of such a nature as will enable an officer appointed by the Government to certify that the above-stated quantity in each year has been actually made, sold, and delivered.

The bonus to be paid only on the certificate of such officer.

Prizes for Collections of Dried Specimens of Grasses and Forage Plants.—Notice No. 369.
Department of Agriculture,
Wellington, 9th May, 1893.
PRIZES offered for collections of dried specimens of grasses and forage plants, introduced and native, prominence being given to the most useful indigenous species. First prize, £25; second, £15.
All specimens must have been gathered in the colony.
Each specimen must be mounted on paper, 18in. by 11in., and bear, if possible, both popular and scientific names, also the name of the locality where obtained.
The collections winning the prizes are to become the property of the department, where they will remain on exhibition, with the names of the collectors affixed.
All collections for competition must be delivered at the office of the Secretary for Agriculture, at the Government Buildings, Wellington, not later than the 31st March, 1894.
Each collection must be marked with a motto, and be accompanied by a sealed envelope containing a copy of such motto, together with the full name and address of the exhibitor.
The unsuccessful exhibits will be returned to the owners carriage-free.
The judges have power to withhold the prizes if they are of opinion that none of the collections are worthy of an award.

Notice under “The Public Payments without Probate Act, 1869.”
FREDERICK GEORGE MOORE, late of Makuri, Settler, deceased.
UNDER the provisions of “The Public Payments without Probate Act, 1869,” and the regulations made thereunder published in the New Zealand Gazette of 1870, page 212, and of section 4 of “The Administration Act 1879 Amendment Act, 1885,” the Colonial Treasurer intends to make a payment of money due to the above-named deceased to a person not being a “legal representative” as defined by the said regulations. All persons objecting to such payment being made must give notice to the Colonial Treasurer, at Wellington, within one calendar month from the date of the Gazette containing this notice, when their objections will be considered.
