Notice of the Laying-off of Roads over Land in the
Wellington Land District.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by his
Deputy, Sir James Prendergast, Chief Justice, under the
authority of "The Native Land Court Act, 1886," and its
amendments, that the roads described in the Schedule
hereto were, on the 21st April, 1892, duly taken and laid
off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under
the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by a
warrant dated the 22nd May, 1891.
SCHEDULE.
ROADS IN MANGANUI-O-TAHU BLOCK, SITUATE IN BLOCKS
XVI. AND XII., MOMAHAKE SURVEY DISTRICT.
ALL those irregular pieces of land, being portions of the
Kauarapaoa-Manganui-o-Tahu and Watershed Roads, falling
within the above block, and marked respectively A to B, C
to D, E to F, G to H, I to J, K to L, M to N, O to P, Q to
R, S to T, U to V, and W to X, on the plan hereinafter
referred to; containing in the aggregate 32 acres 2 roods and
12 perches, more or less, as the same are particularly shown
and coloured dark-red on the plan marked Survey Office
8271 (No. 3), and deposited in the District Lands and Survey
Office, Wellington.

Notice of the Laying-off of Roads in the Wellington Land
District.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency

amendments, that the roads described in the Schedule
hereto were, on the 12th July, 1892, duly taken and laid
off through the land specified in the said Schedule, under
the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by a
warrant of the 10th December, 1891.
SCHEDULE.
WATERSHED ROAD, IN MAUNGAPORAU BLOCK, SITUATE IN
BLOCK IV., MOMAHAKE SURVEY DISTRICT.
ALL that piece of land, containing 16 acres 3 roods 39
perches, more or less, being a road 100 links wide and up-
wards, the eastern side of which commences at a point
marked A on the plan hereinafter referred to, on the south-
ern boundary of Block IV., Momahaki Survey District, and
proceeds thence in a north-easterly direction to a point
marked B on the plan hereinafter referred to, on the north-
east boundary of the Maungaporau Block.
Also, all that other piece of land, containing 9 acres 1 rood
11 perches, more or less, being a road 100 links wide and
upwards, the centre-line of which commences at a point
marked C on the plan hereinafter referred to, on the north-
east boundary of the Maungaporau Block, and proceeds
thence in a north-westerly direction to a point marked D
on the plan hereinafter referred to, on the northern boundary
of the said block: as the same are more particularly shown
on the plan marked Survey Office 8221 (No. 2), and deposited
in the District Lands and Survey Office, Wellington.

Notice to Mariners, No. 45 of 1893.
COOK STRAIT ENTRANCE TO QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND.

Wellington, N.Z., 2nd November, 1893.
WITH reference to Notice to Mariners No. 10, of the
21st March last, it is hereby notified that the s.s.
"Rotorua," when steaming through the passage between
Jackson's Head and the Beacon Rock during the night in
thick weather, struck on a sunken rock. It was low water
with a swell on at the time, and the vessel was drawing
13ft. 5in. aft. The exact position of the rock is a little
doubtful, but the master gives it as being in mid-channel.

Volunteer Corps amalgamated.

HIS Excellency the Governor, by his Deputy, has been
pleased to approve of the amalgamation of the Auck-
land City Guards Rifle Volunteers and the Newton Rifle
Volunteers, with the seniority of the first-mentioned corps,
and under the name of the "Auckland City Rifle Volun-
teers." Date of amalgamation, 4th September, 1893.
The following gentlemen will therefore become officers in
the Auckland City Rifle Volunteers, with their present
seniority, viz. :—
Honorary Captain: CARL KOHN (late Captain, Auckland
City Guards Rifle Volunteers). Date of commission,
21st April, 1885.
Captain: JOHN ROBERTSON (late Captain, Newton Rifle
Volunteers). Date of commission, 15th January, 1887.
Lieutenant: GEORGE JONATHAN DORMER (late Lieutenant,
Auckland City Guards Rifle Volunteers). Date of com-
mission, 2nd December, 1885.
Lieutenant: JOHN PETER OAKES (late Lieutenant, Auck-
land City Guards Rifle Volunteers). Date of commis-
sion, 4th January, 1893.
The commissions held by the under-mentioned honorary
officers will lapse consequent on the above amalgamation :
Lawford David Evans (late Honorary Surgeon, Auckland
City Guards Rifle Volunteers); Alfred Osborne Knight (late
Honorary Surgeon, Newton Rifle Volunteers).

pleased to approve of the transfer of
Lieutenant WILLIAM GRIEVE DUTHIE
from the Wellington Rifle Volunteers to the Wellington City
Rifle Volunteers, under paragraph 44, Volunteer Regulations,
1889. Date of commission (in the Volunteer Force, 21st
January, 1891) in the last-mentioned corps, 30th October
1893.

Bonus on Mineral Oil manufactured from Orepuki Shale.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus will be paid for the
production of mineral oil under the following condi-
tions :—

A bonus of 1s. per gallon (£5,000) will be paid on the
first 100,000 gallons of mineral oil produced from shale
obtained in the Orepuki district, Otago; the oil to be of a
quality approved of by Government, and to be sold at a fair
average market price. -
Notice of intention to claim the aforesaid bonus must
be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later than
the 31st December, 1894. -
The claim must be made before the 30th June, 1895.

The first claimant who proves to the satisfaction of the
Government that he has fulfilled all the conditions to be the
recipient of the bonus. -
The other conditions, as to quantity, priority, quality,
and value, to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer ap-
pointed for the purpose by the Government.
