Special Order made by the Horowhenua County Council subdividing Wirokino Riding.

THE following special order, made by the Horowhenua County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of "The Counties Act, 1886."

HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.—SPECIAL ORDER.

Alteration in Riding.—Subdivision of the Wirokino Riding, in the above County.

Resolution adopted at a special meeting held on the 9th September, 1893, and confirmed at a subsequent special meeting held on the 14th October, 1893:—

"Resolved, That this Council do now confirm the resolution adopted at a special meeting on the 9th September, 1893, subdividing the Riding of Wirokino, Horowhenua County, into two ridings, with two Councillors for each riding; the said special order to come into force at the next general election of the Council in November next. The south boundary of the new north riding to be the boundary between No. 2 Ward (Kingston) and No. 4 Ward (Kereru) of the Wirokino Road District. The north riding to be called the Tokomaru Riding, comprising Wards 1, 2, and 3, and the south riding to be called the Wirokino Riding, comprising Wards 4, 5, and 6, of Wirokino Road District respectively."

I hereby certify that the above special order has been duly made in accordance with the provisions of "The Counties Act, 1886," relating to special orders, and that the above is a true copy of the special order.

Notice of Intention to take Land for a Road.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a road in Port Nicholson Survey District, and that for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken under the provisions of "The Public Works Act, 1882"; and notice is hereby further given that a plan marked P.W.D. 17119, showing generally the said road and the area of the land so required to be taken, is deposited at the Pilot Station, Wellington Heads, and at the Schoolhouse, Kilbirnie, and is open for inspection at those places; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land shall, if they have any well-grounded objections thereto, set forth such objections in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.

SCHEDULE.

The parcel of land mentioned hereunder:—

POSITION OF MACQUARIE ISLAND.

Wellington, N.Z., 20th October, 1893.

CAPTAIN W. McDONALD, of the ketch "Gratitude," reports that Macquarie Island is not in the position shown on the Admiralty chart. He states that, as the result of repeated observations taken in fine and clear weather whilst lying at anchor in Lueitania Bay and at the north end of the island, he found the position of the island to be as follows:—

North end: Lat. 54° 25' S.; long. 158° 41' E.
South end: Lat. 54° 46' S.; long. 158° 49' E.
