Notice of Intention to take Land for the Deviation of the
Great South Road, Westland.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” to
execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of
a deviation of the Great South Road, Westland, and for the
purposes of such public work the land described in the
Schedule hereto is required to be taken; and notice is hereby
further given that the plan of the said road-deviation and of
the land so required to be taken is deposited in the Post-
office, Waitaha Ferry, Westland, and is there open for
inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution
of the said public work or by the taking of the said land
shall, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execu-
tion of the said public work or to the taking of such land,
set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within
forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the
Minister for Public Works, Wellington.

Notice of the Laying-off of a Road over Lands in the
Hawke's Bay Land District.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under
the authority of “The Land Act, 1892,” that the road
described in the Schedule hereto was, on the 7th August,
1893, duly taken and laid off through the lands specified in
the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of
the said colony, by a warrant of the date mentioned therein.
SCHEDULE.
All that piece or parcel of land, 100 links in width, in the
Hawke's Bay Land District, containing by admeasurement
1 acre 2 roods 35 perches, more or less, being part of Section
No. 20, Block II., Weber Survey District, the eastern and
southern side of which strip commences on the northern side
of the road which forms the southern boundary of the said
Section No. 20, at a point distant from road traverse-peg
No. lvi., south, 184·7 links, and west, 603·6 links, and pro-
ceeds in a generally north-easterly direction for a distance of
1611·1 links to the eastern boundary-line of the said Section
No. 20 of Block II. aforesaid: be all the aforesaid linkages
more or less.
Also, all that piece or parcel of land, 100 links and more in
width, in the Hawke's Bay Land District, containing by ad-
measurement 6 acres 1 rood 26 perches, more or less, being
part of Section No. 21, Block II., Weber Survey District,
the south-eastern side of which strip commences at a point
on the eastern boundary-line of Section No. 20 of said
Block II. distant from the south-east corner of the said Sec-
tion No. 20 927·8 links, and proceeds generally in a north-
easterly direction for a distance of 4929·6 links to a road-line
which forms the eastern boundary of the said Section No. 21:
be all the aforesaid linkages more or less.
As the said pieces or parcels of land hereinbefore described
are delineated on the plan marked 779, deposited in the Dis-
trict Lands and Survey Office, Napier, and thereon coloured
red.

Mines Department,

An examination of candidates for certificates as First-
and Second-class Mine-managers and Engine-drivers
under “The Mining Act, 1891,” and “The Coal-mines Act,
1891,” will be held on Monday, the 22nd January, 1894, and
three following days, at places to be hereafter named. All
applications, with necessary certificates, and fee of £1, must
be addressed to “The Secretary of the Board of Examiners
under the Mining Act or Coal-mines Act, Wellington,” and
must be received before the 1st January, 1894, or they will
not be dealt with until the following examination.
