Rural Lands in the Southland Land District open for Sale or Selection.

GLASGOW, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one hundred and thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, David, Earl of Glasgow, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the fifteenth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any lands containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Sections 4 and 13, level, wet peaty soil; on section 13 there is about 60 acres of mixed bush. Sections 5 and 6, level, about 50 acres open land on each, of a wet peaty nature; balance abandoned sawmill workings with a few red- and white-pines and manuka. Sections 7 and 11, level; about 200 acres of wet peaty soil on each; the balance mixed bush of poor quality. Section 12, about 20 acres open land, the balance manuka and mixed bush of a poor quality. Section 8, level river-flat land with mixed bush, sandy-clay soil. The above sections are from 8ft. to 30ft. above sea-level, and are accessible by road from Mokotua Railway-station, distant therefrom eight to sixteen miles, or by river-communication with Fortrose, distant therefrom five to ten miles. Section 46, 90 acres mixed bush, balance wet peaty open land; about 20ft. above sea-level, and eight miles from Mokotua Railway-station by road.

Sections 151 to 155, old sawmill workings; undulating ground, black soil, rock bottom; height above sea-level, about 200ft.; distance from Half-moon Bay, from one to two miles. Sections 156 to 159, old sawmill workings; undulating ground, black soil, rock bottom; height above sea-level, from 200ft. to 500ft.; distance from Half-moon Bay, from two to two and a half miles. Section 156 will be burdened with £10, Section 157 with £2 10s., and Section 158 with £2, being in each case the value of timber on these sections.

Officers under “The Fisheries Conservation Act, 1884,” Otago District, appointed.

IT is hereby notified that, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority conferred by section 9 of “The Fisheries Conservation Act, 1884,”

Joseph Young, of Brighton,
William Mason, of Catlin’s,
John McGlashan, of Palmerston,
Constable William Hilliard, of Palmerston,
Arthur Robertson, of Ettrick,
David Robertson, of Island Block, and
George F. Hosking, of Bendigo,

have been appointed officers for the purposes of that Act within all that area within the Provincial District of Otago bounded on the east and south by the ocean from Shag Point to the mouth of the Mataura River; on the north-west by Lake County; on the west and south-west by the Mataura River; and on the north, north-west, and north-east by the Counties of Westland and Waitaki.
