Section 10A, mixed bush land, on the Utakura River and main coach-road. Section 15, 2 acres open fern, remainder mixed forest of puriri and totara, good clay soil, undulating pastoral land. Section 18, mixed bush and open land of fair quality, close to main road. Sections 21, 22, 24, and 25, mixed heavy forest with fine totara and puriri trees, good clay soil, undulating and hilly pastoral land, a few kauri. All the above sections are well watered and accessible by road.

All good land and well watered, covered with mixed forest, puriri, totara, and tarairc, &c. The sections on the Mangonuiowae River contain alluvial flats well suited for agriculture. All the sections are covered with heavy mixed bush, well watered, soil of fair quality, and are accessible by a formed bridle-track, which connects with the Hokianga Harbour, opposite Herd's Point Township, about thirteen miles distant. The sections are in the Mangonuiowae Valley. Sections 5, 6, and 7 are intersected by the main road to Takahue.

The Old Government Buildings (depicted) were completed in 1876 and initially housed the entire Wellington-based civil service as well as the entire New Zealand Cabinet. The Executive Council met there until 1948.
