Section 79, undulating pastoral land, remainder broken lands, open and mixed forest.

Sections 166 and 168 to 170 inclusive, broken pastoral lands, half fern, half bush, except 167, which is nearly all fern, soil medium, well watered; accessible by Great North Road and branch road from it. Section 174, about one-third flat agricultural land, part swampy, remainder open fern land, good soil. Section 179, about 10 acres swamp, remainder undulating agricultural land, good soil. Sections 180 and 181, small portion of flat land in each section, remainder open pastoral land, good soil, about 10 acres mixed bush on Section 181. Section 182, open and broken forest lands, close to Kawakawa. Section 187, broken pastoral land, half covered with mixed bush, the remainder with fern, inferior soil on ridges, but of better quality lower down near the gullies. Section 188, broken pastoral land, nearly all covered with mixed bush valuable for mining purposes, containing good puriri, tea-tree, and some kauri. Section 189, broken pastoral land, one-half mixed bush, the remainder fern land, soil poor. All the above lots are well watered, and fronting the Kawakawa-Whangae Road, the greater portion of which has been formed. Section 191, open and broken forest land, close to Kawakawa.

All the above sections are situated close to Opua Railway-station and wharf, and are poor lands generally covered with tea-tree and light bush in the gullies. There is little flat land in any of the lots, which would therefore probably be most suitable for fruit-growing.

These lands are situated about twelve miles from Kawakawa; soil fair, surface undulating, mostly bush; a few sections partly bush, partly open.

The Old Government Buildings (depicted) were completed in 1876 and initially housed the entire Wellington-based civil service as well as the entire New Zealand Cabinet. The Executive Council met there until 1948.
