Reservation of Land removed and ordered to be sold.

IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in me by the second section of "The Public
Reserves Sale Act, 1888," I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow,
the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby
declare that the lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto,
being part of the lands mentioned in the Schedule to the
said Act, shall cease to be reserved, and do direct that the
same lands shall be sold or otherwise disposed of under the
provisions of "The Land Act, 1885," or any Act amending
the same.
SCHEDULE.
CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.—AKAROA COUNTY.
RESERVE 1259, Block XIV., Survey District of Pigeon Bay;
area, 10 acres.

this fourteenth day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-two.

Land set apart for Naval and Military and Volunteer
Land-claims.
ONSLOW, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the eighth section of "The Naval
and Military Settlers' and Volunteers' Land Act, 1891," I,
William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, do hereby set apart the land described in
the Schedule hereto for selection by the various holders of
remission certificates issued under the authority of the said
Act, or any other Act of a similar tenor at any time in force.
SCHEDULE.
NELSON.
ALL that block of land containing about 1,560 acres, situated
in the Land District of Nelson, and described as follows:
Bounded on the north-eastward partly by Silverstream and
partly by Sections Nos. 15 and 14, Block VI., Aorere Dis-
trict; on the eastward and south-eastward partly by Section
No. 15, Block VI., partly by the Aorere Valley Road, partly
by the River Aorere, and partly by Sections Nos. 2 and 3,
Block X.; on the southward and south-westward partly by
Section No. 4, Block X., and partly by Sections Nos. 3 and
2, Block X.; and on the westward by Crown lands. The
western boundary of the above block being a line drawn from
the northern angle of Section No. 5, Block X., Aorere, to a
point on Silverstream about 35 chains to the north-westward
of the western corner of Section No. 13, Block VI., Aorere
District. Price, 6s. per acre.
WELLINGTON.
All that area containing approximately about 6,000 acres,
situated in Blocks XI., XII., XV., and XVI., Manganui
Survey District, and Block III., Makotuku Survey District.
Bounded towards the east by the proposed North Island
Main Trunk Railway-line; towards the south-east by the
Makotuku Stream; towards the south-west by the Crown
land set aside for the Waimarino Farm Homestead Associa-
tion Block; and towards the north-west by a line so as to
contain the aforesaid area. Price, £1 to £1 5s. per acre.
All that area containing approximately about 4,700 acres,
situated in Block XIII., Mangahao Survey District, and
Block IV., Tararua Survey District. Bounded towards the
north by a public road, and by Sections Nos. 1, 2, and 4,
Block XIII., Mangahao Survey District; towards the south-
east by the Mangahao River; and towards the west by a
forest reserve and by Crown lands. Price, £1 2s. per acre.

this sixteenth day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-two.

Changing the Purpose of a Reserve in Canterbury.
ONSLOW, Governor.
WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto
was heretofore duly reserved for a plantation reserve,
being a reserve in Class I. of "The Public Reserves Act,
1881," and such land has not been vested in trust in any
society, body corporate, or trustees: And whereas it is ex-
pedient that such reserve shall be appropriated for the pur-
poses of a public recreation-ground, being a reserve in
Class III. of the aforesaid Act:
Now, therefore, I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the
powers and authorities vested in me by the second section
of "The Public Reserves Act Amendment Act, 1889," do, by
this notification, declare that the said reserve shall, from
and after the sixteenth day of February instant, be appro-
priated for the purposes of a public recreation-ground
under Class III. of "The Public Reserves Act, 1881," and I
do hereby direct that this notification shall be published
in the New Zealand Gazette.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that parcel of land in the Canterbury Land District,
containing by admeasurement 6 acres 1 rood, more or less,
being Section No. 2858 (in red), formerly part of Reserve
No. 361, and situate in Block V., Mairaki Survey District.
Bounded northward by a line parallel to the road north of
Section No. 4643 and 555·6 links distant therefrom, 900 links;
eastward by a right-of-way, 694·4 links; southward by Re-
serve No. 2808, 900 links; and westward by Section No.
15239, 694·4 links: be all the aforesaid linkages more or
less; as the same is more particularly delineated on the
plan deposited in the Survey Office, Christchurch.
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this sixteenth day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-two.

Huia protected under the Animals Protection Acts.
ONSLOW, Governor.
IN exercise of the powers vested in me by "The Animals
Protection Act, 1880," and the Acts amending the
same, I, William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare that, from
and after the date hereof, the bird known as the huia
(Heteralocha acutirostris) shall come within the operation
of the said Acts as fully and effectually as if it had been
included in the Fourth Schedule to the said "Animals Pro-
tection Act, 1880."
As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor,
this twenty-third day of February, one thousand
eight hundred and ninety-two.
