tions on the occasion on which the measurement is per-
formed, but not otherwise. For any further visits necessary
for inspection or completion of inspection of crew-spaces and
lights and fog-signals further fees in accordance with the
scale below (Div. b and c) will be charged.
(b.) INSPECTION OF THE BERTHING OR SLEEPING ACCOM-
MODATION OF THE CREW.
For each visit of a Surveyor to the ship .. .. £0 10 0
The total amount of fees chargeable under this heading is
not to exceed £1.
When the accommodation is inspected at the same time
with the measurement of the tonnage no separate fee will
be charged for such inspection.
When lights and fog-signals are inspected on the same
occasion as crew-spaces the above fee covers the inspection
of the lights and fog-signals. If, however, when the Sur-
veyor is able to certify to the crew-spaces, further visits for
the inspection or completion of inspection of lights and fog-
signals are found to be necessary, fees in accordance with
the scale below (Div. c) will be charged.
(c.) INSPECTION OF LIGHTS AND FOG-SIGNALS.
For each visit by a Surveyor, either where applica-
tion for inspection is made by the owner of a
vessel, or when the lights or fittings are found to
be defective (viz., not in accordance with Regula-
tions for preventing Collisions at Sea) .. .. £0 10 0
The total amount of fees chargeable under this heading is
not, however, to exceed £1.
The first fee of 10s. should be charged when the vessel is
placed under detention, or when notice of intended detention
for defective lights and fog-signals is given.
(d.) SURVEY OF SHIPS FOR UNSEAWORTHINESS.

Notice to Certificated Masters, Mates, and Engineers.
Marine Department,
Wellington, 10th December, 1891.
IT is hereby notified that it is necessary for the holders of
colonial certificates as masters, mates, and engineers,
who may wish to make use of them in the United Kingdom,
to present them, as soon as possible after arrival there, to
the Superintendent of a Mercantile Marine Office, in order
that that officer may, after satisfying himself that they are
valid and in full force, stamp them with his official stamp as
an evidence of their validity. Owners of such certificates,
by complying with this requirement, will avoid the risk of
being delayed while their certificates are being verified.
