March.—Generally fine up to the 14th, with strong N.W. wind in early part; from 14th to end of month showery, with intervals of fine weather; the maximum rainfall recorded on 15th, ·60in.; small total rainfall; prevailing wind from N.W., and strong on five days; lightning on night of 1st to N., fog on 16th and 17th. Maximum temperature in shade, 81; minimum, 43. Mean temperature of dewpoint, 55·2; mean humidity, 84. Earthquake on 9th at 2.3 a.m., slight, N. and S. Meteors on 10th and 31st.
April.—First few days fine, then heavy rain on night of 3rd, 1·76in. recorded on 4th, the maximum fall for month; showery up to 9th; fine from 9th to 23rd, when rain commenced and continued until end of month, 1·43in. on the 26th; total rain in excess of average; prevailing N.W. wind, and strong on eight days from that quarter, and on two days from S. THE notice contained in the Kahiti of the 5th day of March, 1891, and in the Government Gazette of the same date, appointing the 5th of May, 1891, as the time, and Shortland as the place, when and where the Native Land Court would sit to determine the matter of the partition of Otautu, refers only to that portion of the land which has been named by the Court Otautu Nos. 1 and 2B, and which is now held by the Native owners thereof under a Land Transfer certificate of title dated the 11th day of June, 1873. The sitting of the Court has been adjourned from the 5th day of May, 1891, to the 2nd day of June, 1891.
