the Commissioner of Trade and Customs has decided to
interpret "The Customs and Excise Duties Act, 1888," in
relation to the under-mentioned articles as follow:—
NOTE.—"Not otherwise enumerated" appears as n.o.e.; "other
kinds" as o.k.; "articles and materials suited only for, and to be
used solely in, the fabrication of goods in the colony" as a. & m.s.

Civil Service Senior Examination.

IN pursuance of regulations under "The Civil Service
Reform Act, 1886," notice is hereby given that for the
Senior Examination of January, 1892, the period of litera-
ture will be the period of the Commonwealth, and the special
books will be Shakespeare's King Lear and The Tempest.

Patent Office Supplement.
A SEPARATE Supplement to the New Zealand Gazette is
now published fortnightly, containing all notices concerning
patents and trade-marks required by law to be gazetted;
also, particulars of lapsed applications for patents, expired
letters patent, and other information useful to inventors,
manufacturers, and others. The Supplement will be issued
free to subscribers to the Gazette, and to others on payment
of a special subscription of ten shillings per annum, payable
in advance to the Government Printer.
