Abolition of Gold Duty in the South Island.

Wellington, 27th April, 1891.

IN view of the abolition of gold duty in the South Island, pursuant to “The Gold Duty Abolition and Mining Property Rating Act, 1890,” the following information affecting the interests of persons dealing in or carrying gold is published for general information.

  1. THE removal of gold from any port in the North Island without the payment of duty is prohibited, except in the Auckland District, where gold the produce of that district may be carried coastwise to Auckland. (See Governor’s Orders, dated the 8th day of January, 1867, and 8th day of November, 1869.)

  2. Any person knowingly carrying gold on which duty has not been paid contrary to the above orders, and any person knowingly having in possession or dealing with gold illegally removed as aforesaid, will be liable to a penalty under section 210 of “The Customs Laws Consolidation Act, 1882.”

  3. The penalty for any of the above offences is a sum equal to treble the value of the gold, including the duty, or £100, at the election of the Commissioner, and confiscation of the gold.

THE following resolution passed by the Auckland Harbour Board, defining the man-of-war anchorage in Auckland Harbour, is published for general information.

ANCHORAGE-GROUND, AUCKLAND HARBOUR.

THE anchorage-ground in Auckland Harbour for vessels belonging to the British navy is defined as under:—

All that portion of the anchorage-ground in Auckland Harbour, commencing at a point 300 yards north of the eastern extreme of the Railway Wharf (the chimney of the Auckland Freezing Company’s Works being in a line south); thence by a line north, 600 yards; thence by a line east 1° north for a distance of 1,200 yards; thence by a line south, 600 yards; thence by a line west 1° south for a distance of 1,200 yards to point of commencement: as shown on chart of Auckland Harbour, lodged with the Marine Department, at Wellington, New Zealand.

Approved at a meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board, held this 14th day of April, 1891.
