THE following notice, received from the Chairman of the
Rangitikei County Council, is published in accordance
with "The Local Bodies' Loans Act, 1886."

RESULT OF POLL FOR PROPOSED LOAN, COUNTY OF RANGITIKEI.
THE following is the result of the poll taken on the 26th day
of January, 1889, on a proposal to raise the sum of £2,000 by
way of loan under the provisions of "The Local Bodies'
Loans Act, 1886," for the purpose of renewing the Onepuhi
and Turakina Bridges, situate within the Maungaraupi
and Wangaehu Ridings, County of Rangitikei; £500 of the
amount to be expended on the Onepuhi Bridge, and £1,500
on the Turakina Bridge :--
Number of ratepayers on the poll, 431, representing 904
votes. Number of ratepayers who voted for the proposal,
230; number of votes recorded for the proposal, 475; num-
ber of ratepayers who voted against the proposal, 1; number
of votes recorded against the proposal, 2.
A majority of the ratepayers of the county (outside the
Town Districts of Bull's and Lethbridge), exercising more
than one-half of the total number of the votes, being in
favour of the proposal, I therefore declare it to be carried.

Special Order made by Southland County Council.—Merging
South Wyndham Road District.

THE following special order, made by the Southland
County Council, is published in accordance with "The
Counties Act, 1886."

SPECIAL ORDER,
THAT the prayer of the petition of the ratepayers of the
South Wyndham Road District be given effect to, and that
the South Wyndham Road Board be dissolved, and the said
road district be merged in Southland County, on and after
the 11th day of January, 1889.
RESOLUTION confirming the above Special Order, passed
11th January, 1889.
That this Council hereby confirm the special order passed
at special meeting held on 28th November, 1888, merging
the South Wyndnam Road District in Southland County,
and dissolving the Board thereof, on and after the 11th day
of January, 1889.

Alteration in the Scale of Charges in force on the New
Zealand Railways.
THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in pur-
suance of the powers conferred by "The Government
Railways Act, 1887," do hereby make the following altera-
tion in the scale of fares, rates, and charges on the New
Zealand Railways, to come into force on and after the
8th February, 1889:—
PART IV.—LOCAL RATES.
WELLINGTON SECTION.
Potatoes, consigned from Lower Hutt to Wellington, will
be charged 3s. 9d. per ton.

Reward of £10,000 offered for the Discovery of New Gold-
fields.—Amended Conditions.

REWARDS of £10,000 are offered for the discovery of new
goldfields, upon the amended conditions set forth
hereunder.

AMENDED CONDITIONS.
-
The maximum sum offered as a reward for any proved
discovery of a new goldfield in accordance with these condi-
tions is £5,000 for the North Island, and £5,000 for the
Middle Island. -
The newly-discovered goldfield must be situated not
less than forty miles from any existing goldfield or any
existing workings. -
No reward shall be payable until 50,000 ounces of gold
have been produced from the newly-discovered goldfield
within three years from the date of its being registered. -
Any person discovering new gold-workings, and being
desirous of obtaining the reward, shall immediately forward
a written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to
the Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within
which such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or
Resident Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an
application for reward. -
No prospecting will be allowed upon Native land with-
out a prospecting license authorising the person therein
named, with the consent of the owner of the land, to prospect,
in accordance with the provisions of sections one hundred
and thirty-five to one hundred and thirty-seven of "The
Mining Act, 1886," inclusive.
No reward shall be paid for any discovery that may be
made upon Native land without the consent of the Native
owners and the approval of the Minister of Mines.
Notice of Intention to take Land for a Road to Hikutaia
Station, on the Grahamstown-Te Aroha Railway.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the
provisions of "The Public Works Act, 1882," to exe-
cute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of
a road to Hikutaia Station, on the Grahamstown-Te Aroha
Railway, and for the purposes of such public work the
land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be
taken; and notice is further given that the plan of the
said road and of the land so required to be taken is de-
posited in the Post Office at Hikutaia, and is there open
for inspection. And notice is hereby given that all persons
affected by the execution of the said public work or by the
taking of the said land shall, if they have any well-grounded
objections to the execution of the said public work or to the
taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send
such writing, within forty days from the first publication of
this notice, to the Minister for Public Works, Wellington.
