Fisheries Conservation Act, 1884," His Excellency the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, acting by and with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby make the following regulations for the
Ashburton County, in the Provincial District of Canterbury,
and in the waters thereof; and doth hereby declare that
these regulations shall, as from the date of the publication
thereof in the New Zealand Gazette, supersede all regula-
tions at variance therewith.
REGULATIONS.

LICENSES to fish for trout and perch in all the waters in
the County of Ashburton, in the Provincial District of Canter-
bury, will be issued under the hand of the Secretary of the
Ashburton Acclimatisation Society, at Ashburton, and for
every such license the followings scale of fees will be charged:
For adults, twenty shillings; for youths under sixteen years
of age, ten shillings, for the season: Provided that it shall
not be obligatory upon the said Secretary to issue a license. -
Every such license shall entitle the person named
therein to fish for trout in any of the said waters from the
sixteenth day of September in any one year to the fifteenth
day of April in the year following, inclusive, and for perch
from the fifteenth day of December in any one year to the
thirtieth day of June in the year following, inclusive; but
no such license shall confer any right of entry upon the land
of any person without his consent. -
Licenses to fish for trout and perch in any of the waters
of the County of Ashburton for a period not exceeding one
month from the date of issue may, however, be issued under
the hand of the Secretary of the Ashburton Acclimatisation
Society to persons visiting the county, and for such license
a fee of five shillings will be charged. -
No person shall fish for, take, catch, or kill, or have in
his possession, or attempt to fish for, take, catch or kill, in
any manner whatever, any of the salmonidæ, or trout, or
perch, except during the above-mentioned periods. -
Every such license shall entitle the person named therein
to fish with one rod and line only, and with the following
baits, namely: Natural or artificial fly, natural or artificial
minnow, silveries, bullies (Eleotris gobioldes), grasshoppers,
spiders, caterpillars, creepers, and worms. -
No person shall use any other bait, or any method,
device, or contrivance of any sort or kind whatever, for the
purpose of fishing for, taking, catching, or killing, trout or
perch, except a rod and line, and a landing-net or gaff for fish
taken with rod and line. -
No cross-line fishing, stroke-hauling, or any other un-
sportsmanlike device shall be used for the purpose of taking,
catching, or killing trout or perch; nor shall any of the baits
above mentioned be used with any medicated or chemical
preparation whatever. -
No person shall fish without a license, and every person
fishing shall, on demand of any ranger, constable, or mem-
ber of the acclimatisation society, or person producing a
license, produce and show to such ranger, member, constable,
or person his license, and the contents of his creel or bag,
and the bait used by him for taking, catching, or killing
trout or perch. -
Every trout under ten inches in length, and every perch
under six inches in length from nose to tip of tail, taken or
caught by any person, shall immediately be returned alive
into the water from which the same is taken. -
No person shall put, throw, or place, or allow to be put,
thrown, or placed, into any of the said waters, any sawdust
or saw-mill refuse, or anything of any kind or description
whatever poisonous, deleterious, or noxious to fish. -
No person shall take, fish for, catch, or kill, in any
manner whatever, or have in his possession, any salmon,
salmon-parr, or smolts, or the ova, young, or fry of any
salmon in any stage whatever; and any of the above-named
taken by accident or otherwise shall immediately be returned
to the water from whence it was taken. -
No person shall buy, sell, or expose, or offer for sale,
within the district to which these regulations relate, any of
the salmonidæ, trout, or perch, or take, fish for, catch, or
kill any of the salmonidæ, trout, or perch in order to make
sale of the same, for a period of one year from the fifteenth
day of September, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
nine. -
No person shall have in his possession any of the
salmonidæ, trout, or perch during the period appointed for a
close season for any of such fish. -
The Secretary of the Ashburton Acclimatisation
Society may indorse any license to fish issued by any other
acclimatisation society, and upon such indorsement being
made the person in whose favour it was issued shall be
entitled to fish for trout and perch in any of the waters
within the County of Ashburton without payment by such
person of any further fee; but subject in all other respect to
the regulations with regard to the fishing for trout and perch
in force within the said county. -
The penalty for the breach of any of these regulations
shall not be less than twenty shillings or more than fifty
pounds.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this sixteenth
day of September, 1889.

HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities
vested in him by "The Companies Act, 1882," His
Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
acting with the advice and consent of the Executive Council
of the said colony, doth hereby direct that the association
about to be formed under the said Act as a limited company
under the name of the Canterbury Society of Arts may,
on application for that purpose, be registered with limited
liability without the addition of the word "Limited" to its
name.

Constituting Tomahawk Road District and amending Penin-
sula Road District, County of Peninsula.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this sixteenth
day of September, 1889.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by section twenty of "The Counties Act,
1886" (hereinafter termed "the said Act"), it is
provided that all the powers of a County Council relating to
the alteration of the boundaries of any road or town districts
within a county, or of amalgamating such districts, or of
merging any of them into the county, and all other powers
in relation to such districts exercisable by the Council by
special order or on petition, may be exercised by the Gover-
nor in Council in respect of any of the counties in which the
said Act is suspended: And whereas the said Act is sus-
pended in the County of Peninsula: And whereas in pur-
suance of "The Road Boards Act, 1882," a petition has
been presented to His Excellency the Governor, signed by
two-thirds of the ratepayers in the Peninsula Road District,
in the said County of Peninsula, praying him to constitute a
new road district:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers
and authorities vested in him by the said Act, and acting by
and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of
the said colony, doth hereby order and declare that such
portion of the said Peninsula Road District, in the County
of Peninsula, as is comprised within the boundaries described
in the First Schedule hereto shall constitute a new road
district, to be called the Tomahawk Road District; and that
the number of the members of the Board of the said road
district shall be six.
And His Excellency doth further hereby declare that,
from and after the date hereof, the boundaries of the afore-
said Peninsula Road District shall be as the same are
described in the Second Schedule hereto.
And His Excellency, in pursuance of the powers and
authority aforesaid, doth hereby appoint William Denton to
be Clerk to the Board of the Tomahawk Road District so
constituted as aforesaid, to hold office until a Chairman or
Clerk is appointed by the said Board; and doth also appoint
the said William Denton to be the Returning Officer to hold
the first election of six members of the said Board; and
Saturday, the twenty-sixth day of October, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-nine, to be the day, and the
Tomahawk Schoolhouse to be the place, for such first
election. And His Excellency doth further appoint Monday,
the twenty-eighth day of October, one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-nine, at eight o'clock in the evening, to be the
time, and the said schoolhouse to be the place, for the first
meeting of the Board of the said road district.
