Assembly of New Zealand, passed in the forty-fourth
year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, and in-
tituled "The Marriage Act, 1880," the following names of

published for general information: -

N O. 3848. -JOHN VOLKNER, of Lucas Creek, Auckland,
New Zealand, Farmer, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for a jar for preserving-purposes,
to be called "Volkner's Patent Safety Preserving-jar."
No. 3849. -DANIEL PARKER, of Gore, Otago, New Zealand,
Manufacturing Hosier, has deposited at this office a specifi-
cation of an invention for a new process of manufacturing,
in a continuous form upon circular-ribb knitting-machines,
ribbed hose and half-hose, also hose and half-hose, part
ribbed and part plain, to be called "Parker's Perpetual Pro-
cess."
No. 3850. -FREDERICK HALL SNYDER, of Jersey City, New
Jersey, United States of America, Attorney-at-law, has
deposited at this office a specification of an invention for
improvements in and relating to explosive and other projec-
tiles or shells.
No. 3851. -ALBERT BERWICK CUNNINGHAM, of Hebburn-
on-Tyne, England, Gentleman, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for improvements in the treat-
ment of zinc-ores.
No. 3852. -JAMES AUGUSTUS MITCHELL and GEORGE
AUGUSTINE RODDA, both of Sydney, New South Wales,
Mechanical Engineers, have deposited at this office a specifi-
cation of an invention for improvements in certain descrip-
tions of concentrating-machines.
No. 3853. -HENRY VINCENT SMITH, of 1, Cunningham
Street, South Yarra, Melbourne, Victoria, Gentleman, has
deposited at this office a specification of an invention for
improvements in means for fastening door-knobs or -handles
on their spindles.
And I have appointed Thursday, the 31st day of October
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 16th day of
October next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they
will be precluded from urging the same.

for an improved gas, usable as an explosive, and in admix-
ture with other gases as an illuminating and heating gas.

at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the

of an invention to be called "May's Self-equalising Horse-
yoke."
No. 3858. -WILLIAM BENJAMIN WALTERS, of Dunedin,
New Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for extracting acids and other
deleterious ingredients from timber used in making packages
to contain butter and other dairy-produce.
No. 3859. -WILLIAM BENJAMIN WALTERS, of Dunedin,
New Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for a varnish to be used for
coating boxes, packages, and firkins made to contain butter
and other dairy-produce.
No. 3860. -JAMES DACIE WRIGGLESWORTH and FREDERICK
CHARLES BINNS, both of Wellington, New Zealand, Photo-
graphers, have deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for the Matt-opal-type process, for giving a Matt
surface to albuminized-silver prints.
No. 3861. -RALPH ROBINSON, of Hobson Street, Auckland,
New Zealand, Pharmaceutical Chemist, has deposited at
this office a specification of an invention for preserving
animal and vegetable substances, to be called "The
Southern Cross Food-preserving Process."
And I have appointed Tuesday, the 5th day of November
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear
the said applications and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 21st day of
October next, at this office, particulars in writing of their

quartz, and to more effectually arrest the finer gold.
No. 3866. -WILLIAM CHARLES PAGE, of Ashburton, New
Zealand, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for a new or improved apparatus for raising sunken
vessels and other sunken objects.
No. 3867. -JOSEPH WOODHEAD, of Boggo Road, South
Brisbane, Queensland, Engineer, has deposited at this office
a specification of an invention for a lever-cramp.
No. 3868. -EDWARD KING COAS, of Detroit, Wayne, Michi-
gan, United States of America, has deposited at this office
a specification of an invention for improvements in a novel
metallic pipe, and means for making it.

next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
