been pleased to pronounce the under-mentioned special
claim cancelled:—

Reward of £10,000 offered for the Discovery of New Gold-
fields.—Amended Conditions.

REWARDS of £10,000 are offered for the discovery of new
goldfields, upon the amended conditions set forth
hereunder.

AMENDED CONDITIONS.
- The maximum sum offered as a reward for any proved
discovery of a new goldfield in accordance with these condi-
tions is £5,000 for the North Island, and £5,000 for the
Middle Island. - The newly-discovered goldfield must be situated not
less than forty miles from any existing goldfield or any
existing workings. - No reward shall be payable until 50,000 ounces of gold
have been produced from the newly-discovered goldfield
within three years from the date of its being registered. - Any person discovering new gold-workings, and being
desirous of obtaining the reward, shall immediately forward
a written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to
the Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within
which such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or
Resident Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an
application for reward. - No prospecting will be allowed upon Native land with-
out a prospecting license authorising the person therein
named, with the consent of the owner of the land, to prospect,
in accordance with the provisions of sections one hundred
and thirty-five to one hundred and thirty-seven of "The
Mining Act, 1886," inclusive.
No reward shall be paid for any discovery that may be
made upon Native land without the consent of the Native
owners and the approval of the Minister of Mines.

ton, New Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for improvements in
apparatus for dressing New Zealand flax.
No. 3713.—JAMES ROBERT BROWNE, of Wellington, New
Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at this office a specifica-
tion of an invention for Lewthwaite's method of construct-
ing breakwaters, groins, moles, sea-walls, foundations for
lighthouses, coast defences, roadways through and over
rivers, and other like works (communicated by John Lewth-
waite, of 51, Lambs Conduit Street, Holborn, London, Middle-
sex, Engineer).
No. 3714.—CHARLES JEDEDIAH LEE, of Universal Cham-
bers, Collins Street, Melbourne, Victoria, Importer, has
deposited at this office a specification of an invention for
securing and locking nuts on through screw-bolts, to be
called "The Patent Self-acting Nut Locker for Screw-bolts"
(being a communication from abroad by Ethan Bradley
Keith, of Kalamazo-Kalamazo, County Michigan, United
States of America, Engineer, inventor of the aforesaid
invention).
No. 3715.—JAMES REYNOLDS, of Hokitika, New Zealand,
has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for
a spring window-rack, to be known as "J. Reynolds's
Spring Window-rack."
No. 3716.—CHAPMAN EWEN, of Tamahere, Waikato,
Auckland, New Zealand, has deposited at this office a speci-
fication of an invention to be called "Chapman Ewen's
Combined Potato-separator and Bagging Machine."
No. 3717.—GEORGE WILLIAM GRAINGER, of Napier, New
Zealand, Civil Engineer, has deposited at this office a speci-
fication of an invention for a drum and ratchet-lever press.
And I have appointed Wednesday, the 7th day of August
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 23rd day of July
next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections
to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be pre-
cluded from urging the same.

No. 3721.—ROBERT ORR, of the Lower Hutt, Wellington,
New Zealand, Law Clerk, has deposited at this office a
specification of an invention for improvements in dressing
New Zealand flax, to be called "Orr's Phormium Tenax
Fibre Process."
No. 3722.—GEORGE THOMPSON, of Hobson Street, Auck-
land, New Zealand, has deposited at this office a specifica-
tion of an invention for dressing flax, to be called "Thomp-
son's Patent Improved Flax-dressing Machine."
No. 3723.—JOHN ROBERT PERRY, of Dunedin, New
Zealand, has deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for raising stones, sand, gravel, and débris of all
kinds usually met with in alluvial mining.
And I have appointed Thursday, the 8th day of August
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 24th day of
July next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to any of the said applications, otherwise they
