At a meeting of the Wakanui Road Board, held on the 4th
May, 1889, it was resolved that the number of members for
No. 3 Ward be increased to three.

We, the undersigned, certify that the foregoing resolution
has been passed in strict accordance with section 76 of "The
Road Boards Act, 1882."

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Borough of Picton.

THE following notice, received from His Worship the
Mayor of the Borough of Picton, is published in ac-
cordance with "The Municipal Corporations Act, 1886."

LOAN FOR WATERWORKS, BOROUGH OF PICTON.
RESULT of poll on proposal to borrow £5,000 for the con-
structing or establishing waterworks for the convenience
and health of the inhabitants of the Borough of Picton,
taken at the Borough Council office, Picton, on Thursday,
the 23rd day of May, 1889:—

Total number of ratepayers on roll, 189; representing 210
votes. Votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 121; by 104
ratepayers. Votes recorded against the proposal, 3; by 3
ratepayers. Votes not recorded, 86; by 82 ratepayers.

As a majority in number of the ratepayers voted in favour
of the proposal, and the number so voting are entitled to
more than half the number of votes which can be exercised
by the whole number of the ratepayers, I do hereby declare
the proposal carried.

New Zealand.

THE following commission, appointing the Right Honour-
able the Earl of Onslow to be Governor and Com-
mander-in-Chief of the Colony of New Zealand, is published
for general information.

VICTORIA, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Ireland, Queen, Defender of the Faith,
Empress of India, to our Right Trusty and Right Well-
beloved Cousin William Hillier, Earl of Onslow, Knight
Commander of our Most Distinguished Order of Saint
Michael and Saint George, Greeting:

WE do, by this our Commission under our Sign-manual
and Signet, appoint you, the said William Hillier, Earl of
Onslow, to be, during our pleasure, our Governor and Com-
mander-in-Chief in and over our Colony of New Zealand and
its Dependencies, with all the powers, rights, privileges, and
advantages to the said office belonging or appertaining.

Second. And We do hereby authorise, empower, and com-
mand you to exercise and perform all and singular the
powers and directions contained in our Letters Patent under
the Great Seal of our United Kingdom of Great Britain and
Ireland, bearing date at Westminster the twenty-first day of
February, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine, or
any other Letters Patent adding to, amending, or sub-
stituted for the same, according to such Orders and Instruc-
tions as our Governor for the time being hath already
received from Us, and to such further Orders and Instruc-
tions as you shall hereafter receive from Us.

Third. And We do hereby appoint that, so soon as you
shall have taken the prescribed Oaths and have entered
upon the duties of your office, this our present Commission
shall supersede our Commission under our Sign-manual and
Signet, bearing date the twenty-eighth day of November, one
thousand eight hundred and eighty-two, appointing our
Trusty and Well-beloved Lieutenant-General Sir William
Francis Drummond Jervois, Knight Grand Cross of our
Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint
George, Companion of our Most Honourable Order of the
Bath, to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief of our said
Colony and its Dependencies.

Fourth. And We do hereby command all and singular our
Officers, Ministers, and loving subjects in our said Colony
and its Dependencies, and all others whom it may concern,
to take due notice hereof, and to give their ready obedience
accordingly.

Given at our Court, at Windsor, this twenty-fourth
day of November, one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-eight, in the Fifty-second Year of our
Reign.
