THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

  1. No prospecting will be allowed upon Native land with-
    out a prospecting license authorising the person therein
    named, with the consent of the owner of the land, to prospect,
    in accordance with the provisions of sections one hundred
    and thirty-five to one hundred and thirty-seven of "The
    Mining Act, 1886," inclusive.
    No reward shall be paid for any discovery that may be
    made upon Native land without the consent of the Native
    owners and the approval of the Minister of Mines.

Alterations in the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in
force on the New Zealand Railways.

THE New Zealand Railway Commissioners, in exercise
and pursuance of the powers conferred by "The
Government Railways Act, 1887," do hereby make the
following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges
on the New Zealand railways, to come into force on and
after the 8th April, 1889:-

PART I.-PASSENGERS.
LOCAL FARES AND REGULATION.
Napier and Wellington Sections.

Tickets will be available on the day of issue and on the

Timber from Hunua to Auckland or Newmarket will be
charged 1s. per 100 superficial feet.

PART V.- CLASSIFICATION OF GOODS.
Flax, native, dressed, screw-pressed. Other- Class E.
wise, rate and a half

Notice of Hearing of Application for a Patent.
Patent Office,
Wellington, 21st March, 1889.
NO 3603. -WILLIAM JOHN MARSHALL, Boilermaker, and
JAMES FORD, Tailor, both of Newcastle, New South
Wales, have deposited at this office a specification of an
invention for improvements in the fastening of tubes such as
steam boiler-tubes in their tube-plates.
And I have appointed Wednesday, the 21st day of August
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear
the said application and all objections thereto; and I
require all persons having an interest in opposing the grant
of such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 6th day of
August next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to the said application, otherwise they will be
precluded from urging the same.

NO. 3605. -ROBERT EDWARD EVENDEN, of 4, Lambton
Quay, Wellington, New Zealand, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for a new or improved
apparatus for washing and separating gold and some other
minerals and substances.
And I have appointed Friday, the 31st day of May next,
at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said application and all objections thereto; and I require
all persons having an interest in opposing the grant of
such Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 16th day of
May next, at this office, particulars in writing of their
objections to the said application, otherwise they will be
precluded from urging the same.

NO. 3604. -TOTTENHAM LEE RICHARDSON, of Murra-
woombie, near Nyngen, New South Wales, Grazier,
has deposited at this office a specification of an invention for
improvements in sheep-shearing machines and in flexible
shaft-connections therefor, and for other purposes.
No. 3606. -EDWARD METCALF SMITH, of New Plymouth,
Taranaki, New Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at this
office a specification of an invention for certain improve-
ments in the manufacture of artificial or compound ores of
iron, by the combination of magnetic ironsand with other
materials, into bricks or blocks of any desired form suitable
for smelting in an ordinary blast furnace, and the use of
such ores for that purpose.
No. 3607. -WILLIAM BUTLER and JOSEPH BUTLER, of
Greymouth, New Zealand, Contractors, have deposited at
this office a specification of an invention called "Butlers'
Archimedean Valve."
And I have appointed Tuesday, the 18th day of June
next, at 11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said applications and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of any such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 3rd day of June
next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections
to any of the said applications, otherwise they will be pre-
cluded from urging the same.
