THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

Helmet: White, staff Imperial cavalry pattern, with spike
and button.
Forage cap: Blue cloth, Imperial cavalry pattern, with
14in. scarlet band, welted; scarlet-worsted purl button
and braid figuring in scarlet tracing-lace on crown;
patent-leather chin-strap, din. broad.
Gloves: Brown dogskin or white buck (optional to corps),
to be worn on church parades, annual inspections, and
public ceremonies only.
Sword-belts: Buff or brown leather.
Pouch-belt: Buff or brown leather.
Pouch: Black or brown leather.
30. Saddlery:-
Saddle: Military or hunting pattern.
Saddle-cloth: Optional for corps, but if adopted to be of
blue cloth, lined with moleskin or stout material so as
not to wrinkle under the saddle; it is to be 3ft. long at
bottom and 2ft. deep, laced all round with two stripes
of scarlet-worsted lace 1½in. broad and ¼in. apart; at
each hind corner the initial letters of the troop in white-
worsted embroidery surmounted by a crown.
Bridle: Brown leather, Imperial cavalry pattern, with
hunting bit and bridoon or pelham bit.
Breastplate: Brown leather, hunting pattern.
Head-rope: White, 2½in., 6ft. long; to be fastened through
the ring of the head-collar, passed round the horse's
neck and rolled; roll to be 6in. from ring of collar.

Mounted Rifles.
Officers and Men.
31. Patrol Jacket: Same as for the mounted corps, except
that the collar will be of the same colour as jacket.
Trousers: Same as other mounted corps.
Pantaloons: Same as other mounted corps.
Cloak: Imperial cavalry pattern.
Boots: Imperial cavalry pattern.
Helmet: Imperial cavalry pattern.
Forage-cap for officers: Same as for other mounted corps,
but the band will be black-mohair lace, 2in. broad, with
black button and tracing-braid figured on crown. Chin-
strap, black-patent leather, ¼in. broad.
Forage-cap for Men: Same as officers, but the band will be
of black worsted instead of mohair.
Gloves: Brown leather, to be worn on all occasions by the
officers, but by the men on annual inspections, church
parades, and public ceremonies only.
Sword: Imperial light cavalry pattern, with steel or
brown-leather scabbard, as approved for mounted in-
fantry in the Imperial service.
Pouch-belt: Black patent or morocco leather, 2½in. wide,
with plated buckle, tip, and slide.
Sword-belt: Black patent or morocco leather, 1½in. wide;
slings, 1in. wide, plated-metal mountings and snake
fastening. If the leather scabbard is worn, then there
will be a frog instead of slings.
Sword-knot: Black leather, plaited with acorn.
Pouch: Black patent leather, 5½in. long, 2¼in. deep (to
collapse), with a white-metal bugle on leaf.
32. Horse Furniture: Saddle-cloth same as other mounted
corps, but the lace will be black worsted instead of
scarlet, and above the initial letters of the corps there
will be a white embroidered bugle, 2in. high and broad
in proportion, instead of the crown.
Saddle: Same as for other mounted corps.
Bridle: Same as for other mounted corps.
Breastplate: Same as for other mounted corps.
Head-rope: Same as for other mounted corps.

Artillery.
33. As approved by His Excellency the Governor, dated
the 30th April, 1881; except that the white helmet, as worn
by the Permanent Artillery, will take the place of the busby.

Engineers.
34. As in the Imperial service, substituting silver for gold.

  1. Full Dress:-
    Rifle Corps.
    Officers.
    Tunic of scarlet cloth, or fine-serge patrol jacket.
    Trousers: Cloth or fine serge, blue, with scarlet ¼in. welt
    down each side seam.
    Helmet: Blue, Imperial pattern.
    Gloves: White buck.
    White shoulder- and sword-belts.
    Pouch: Black leather, with white-metal bugle.
    Full dress will be worn at reviews, funerals, church parades,
    levées, guards of honour, paying visits to foreign vessels of
    war, balls, and public entertainments when ordered.
    N.B.-Silver-laced trousers, pouch, and sword-belt may be
    worn at levées, balls, and entertainments, but never on parade.
    When the helmet is worn on duty or parade the chin-strap is
    always to be down.

When the men appear on parade in leggings officers will also
wear them.
Field officers, when mounted, will wear brass jack-spurs.
Officers not wishing to go to the expense of getting full-dress
tunics will be allowed to wear scarlet-serge patrol jackets on
parade in review order, but these jackets will not be worn at
levées or balls.
36. Undress:-
Patrol Jacket: Blue cloth, of Imperial pattern.
Trousers: Same as full dress.
Helmet or forage-cap.
Sword and belt.
Gloves.
Undress will be worn on all field-days and drills (unless other-
wise ordered), Courts-Martial duty, Boards and Courts of In-
quiry, and paying visits to English vessels of war. Mounted
officers will wear pantaloons, knee-boots, jack-spurs, and
sabretache.

  1. Full Dress:-
    Rank and File.
    Tunic: Scarlet, Imperial pattern; facings, dark blue,
    piped with white cord; eight white-metal buttons of
    approved pattern down the front, two buttons on waist
    at back, and one small button on each shoulder-strap.
    The initials of corps in white worsted on shoulder-straps.
    Trousers: Black cloth, with scarlet welt ¼in. wide down
    each side seam.
    Helmet: Blue, Imperial pattern, with white-metal mount-
    ings of approved pattern. Sealed patterns are lodged in
    the Defence Office.
  2. Undress:-
    Patrol jacket of blue cloth or serge, fitting more to the
    body than the scarlet frock now worn, but not so tight
    as the tunic, with stand-up collar of same material; six
    white-metal buttons down front, tracing of black braid
    above cuff of each sleeve; shoulder-straps of same
    material, edged with ¼in. black braid, with initials of
    corps in worsted thereon.
    Trousers: Blue cloth or serge, with welt same as in full
    dress.
    Cap: Blue glengarry, with badge of corps on left side.

Efficiency Badges.
39. The efficiency badge will be a star. All Volunteers who
have been returned as efficients for three years will wear the
"efficiency badge" on their right arm, above the Austrian
knot. The three years must be consecutive.
40. Volunteers who have been returned as efficient for an
additional consecutive three years will wear a second badge.
41. Volunteers who have been returned as efficient nine
times, which need not be consecutive or in the same corps for
the last six times returned, will wear a silver star on the right
arm above the elbow; if a non-commissioned officer, above the
chevrons.
42. Any Volunteer in possession of the efficiency badge or
badges who is returned as non-efficient for two consecutive
years will forfeit any badge or badges he may be in possession
of.
43. When a Volunteer is in possession of two badges they
will be worn horizontal in line ¼in. apart. Badges to be of silk.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.

At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-
third day of March, 1889.

Present:

HIS EXCELLENCY THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE GOVERNMENT
IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by "The Court of Appeal Act, 1882," it is
enacted that the Court shall hold its sittings at such
times and places as shall be from time to time fixed by the
Governor in Council, and proclaimed in the Government
Gazette twenty-one days at least before the time so fixed
respectively:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Administrator of the
Government of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the
advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, doth hereby fix that a sitting of the Court of Appeal
of New Zealand shall be held within the Supreme Court-
house, in the City of Wellington, upon Monday, the sixth
day of May, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, at
eleven o'clock in the forenoon.
